If you have a bigger class you're more likely to finish ahead of another school. Per 247, Tech is 2nd in CUSA with 15 commits at an 82.78 average. North Texas is in 1st place with 22 commits but has a lower average at 82.73. Cajuns have 21 commits with a lower average of 82.41. I always take a wait and see approach with rankings. A lot of times when you look back on a class it's the walk on or lightly recruited player that becomes the star and leader on the team. It's all how you develop them and how much heart and desire the player has to become better.
All you said accurate, but numbers do matter. Good to have more good players, good to have better players. If the quality is close more is better on paper and statistically. Time will determine who's better on the field. I'm sure LTUR will sign more than 15 players. Ya think enough to get to the top tier of G5?

Will be more than 15 but not much more. You already have 21 and Tech will probably max out at 20. I would have to go back and look at the openings for this class but it's not as much as other schools which is a good thing. Continuity and not a lot of players leaving the program. Holtz never signs a full class though. Always leaves a few for quality transfers and for walk-ons that have earned a scholarship. Already have a top tier G5 class when you look at average ratings per player. More is better like you say, we have more staying in the program and don't need to sign a big class.

I'll go with the Nick Saban model, when is the last time Bama signed 17 players? He signs 25 almost every year with a pile of PWO players. Bama finds homes for 5 star players not cutting it so they can sign 25. Hudspeth unable to find his allotment of quality players also 'held' scholarships for better players falling through the cracks later in the year. That's code for I cannot find enough good players willing to come.

Bama can do what it wants however it wants to do it. Tech and ULL are not Bama. Are you saying Napier is going to over sign classes? Good luck with that. Tech always finds its allotment of quality players. You sign how many you need on that given year. As far as having a few scholarships left for walk-ons that have earned a scholarship, I see nothing wrong with that.

Dude, the reason your walk on players generally get scholarships is because someone with a scholarship failed as a player, citizen, or student. Nobody is saving scholarships for Rudy.

Anyway it's nice to know y'all not paying attention to lil old UL.

We gave a scholarship to a former walk on last week. Very emotional moment for his family. Guy obviously earned it through his play on special teams. Still, you want those to be rare.

Where'd that scholarship come from Mike? A failed scholarship player from another class. That's where most of these junior, senior scholarships come from.

Napier can sign athletes on the first day of practice that will count towards the next class. He will sign 25 this year, and we will still not be at 85 scholarships yet do to the sanctions. The Blue Shirt rule allows him to do it. Awarding scholarships to walk-ons is nothing new, Napier awarded five during the spring and several more this fall. There is nothing wrong with it and it allows athletes the opportunity to work hard and be rewarded for their efforts.

Failed scholarship players are a fact of life in every program. That's why teams are able to stay within the 85 scholarship limit even though they sign 20-25 players each year. Some that sign find that they just can't cut it at this level. Others turn out to be criminals. Some get hurt. Some are just lazy and quit.

    and your point is?

It's not a plan, it's a fall back position which is fine
