    Louisiana's ACADIEN Yearbook
    1925-26
    The Turkey-Day Game

"The final game was at hand. State Normal had a string of victories longer than the tail on Hadley's comet, with but one small defeat of 7-6, handed the by Austin College.

Southwestern had a HomeComing Day and all the "grads" were there, with friends and families, and the campus was a gaily bedight as a gallant knight. "Pep" was in the air, and the supporters from Normal believed in their team.

Bouquets were presented to the eight Seniors of the Football Team by the Cheer Leaders, Mabel Lewis and Ralph Boyum. It was indeed sad to know that such men as Captain Cagle, "Tom" Cambre, Earl Adams, "Fat" Adams, "Nod" Montalbano, Max Landry, Raoul Landry, and "Nig" Bujard were playing their last football game for Southwestern.

Normal was playing for Cagle that day, but they did not watch Stafford and others, who made touchdowns while Cagle helped them with his beautiful passes. The only score Normal made was when Turpin, star back, broke through for a 30-yard run and touchdown. This was soon eclipsed as the Bulldogs piled up a 24-7 victory for old Southwestern."

Turbine: do you (or anyone else) know for how long the football field stayed in the quad? I know it moved to McNaspy in 1940, but I think it moved somewhere else before then? Maybe where the U is now? I Know there were tennis courts there as well, right before they built the U in 1967, but I think the football field was there at one time as well??

p.s. You can also see DeClouet Hall in the top left background

West side of the Swamp (touching) 1901-1903

    Quad 3 different locations 1904-192?

East side of Swamp (touching) 192?-194?

    McNaspy Stadium 194?)197?

    Cajun Field "The Swamp"

I think the first season Cajun field was used was the 1972 season. That was the fall of my freshman year and I never went to a game at McNaspy while I was in college. The stadium was not finished in time for the 1971 season.

,————-I think I have this correct......the first tackle made in the stadium was by Tommy Rogers and the first defensive TD by Charlie Fox!

Cajun Field actually opened in 1971, not '72. The first game was USL vs Santa Clara if I remember correctly.
