Positives on offense

By your definition Joe Montana wasnt a D1 qb. He did fairly well in an offense designed around his skill set.

Montana was a D1 QB by every definition. That is why we was recruited by Notre Dame and drafted in the NFL. He was not a flamethrower but he posed accuracy few in the game ever had.
I am not as harsh as T on Nunez, partly because we have not had a D1 caliber QB for several years. While he is not great, he is better than Haack and Davis. I am glad we have him and I think some of those long throws may work against SBC foes.

Sometimes what "only" looks like an underthrown ball is due to taking to long to decide to throw.

If the decision is made a split second sooner -with the same exact throw- he hits the receiver in stride.

Joe Montana threw many long passes in his career, not just the West Coast Offense throws. Come on Charlie, do we really going to compare this guy to Montana? He is Haack with better legs. That who is , his arm is not even close to Gauthier or Broadway before his injury. His is not close to either in arm strength.

I think Nunez is a much more accurate passer than Haack. Haack struggled more at Northwestern State than he did here. Granted Nunez has all the shortcomings you mentioned earlier but we just have to minimize the times we ask him to do the things he struggles with.

When you say D1 material, you may mean P5 material. I bet there are many G5 schools do not have a QB as good as Nunez from an overall viewpoint.

Mike, I mean a QB that can play up against the competition you play. A QB that gives you a chance to beat a opponent that is better than you and can beat defenses down the field. We have had two in 8 seasons here at UL, Gautier and Broadway.

Ok, that makes sense. Interesting that in his press conference yesterday Coach Napier said that for us to function at the level we desire, the QB play must be exceptional.

Enough of this nonsense. What is the opinion of Ragas in our offense? I thought he was very effective vs MSST, but underutilized. Was this because of the DL MSST had or will we use more of a short-range passing offense?

We have our work cut out for us period, nothing will come easy for this team. We must execute better on offense, meaning putting some air under the ball when receivers get behind defensive backs and are open. The running backs doing a better job of picking up blitz and running hot routes.

Our technique on the defensive line needs to be much better and play discipline football (meaning gap control). Making plays on third down when the opponent is behind the sticks and getting off the field. I don't care who you are playing, not getting one stop on third, or fourth down and not making your opponent punt until 2:12 in the 3rd quarter is unacceptable period.

How many times did our DE take the first fake up the middle and leave the end exposed for a huge run by the QB? I don't remember seeing much blitzing or running stunts, just straight bull rushes and we could not overtake their OL. LB seemed to be out of position much of the night to stop the run. As you said, we did not have gap control. Is that coaching or poor decision making on the field? Either way, it must be corrected.
