Thread: Louisiana Soccer 2018

Haven't seen a thread about Soccer in a while, so I thought I'd revisit this one. Our game against G. Southern was canceled yesterday and it may have been for the best. Louisiana is 1-6-2 on the year and have been outscored 5-22. The 1 win and 2 ties came against Southland teams.

If that record doesn't improve, is this finally the season that we see a long overdue head coaching change?

I have heard he is as good as gone. It will be interesting to see what kind of coach Maggard is looking for. Right now we are loaded with European and California players which has not seemed to work out.

Interestingly enough he has seemed (in my opinion) to look more closely at Louisiana players this past year than what I have seen in the past. That doesn't necessarily mean anything since our talent pool is rather shallow. With that said there have definitely been some decent caliber players here that didn't even get a whiff from UL.

No matter how you cut it he hasn't cut it. There are also people in the Lafayette area that have extremely good connections all the way up to the U.S. National team. No reason why we shouldn't be able to get help identifying very talented up and coming coaching candidates.

It’s long overdue for a coaching change if you look at his entire record at UL and this year especially.

  5. UL Soccer Soccer Home Stand Texas State and ULM

    The Series

Louisiana is 1-5 all-time against Texas State coming off of a 3-0 defeat in San Marcos a year ago. The Ragin' Cajuns came up short 2-1 in overtime in the last contest played in Lafayette in 2016. The Cajuns own a 10-4-2 edge over ULM including a 7-0-1 record at home.

    Scouting Texas State

Texas State (3-5-0, 1-0-0 SBC) is in a five-way tie for first place in the Sun Belt Conference with three points after defeating ULM 4-0. The Bobcats have won just two of their last six contests.

Junior Kaylee Davis ranks second in the conference with five goals on the season including two game-winning goals. Junior Jordan Kondikoff is tied for fourth in the league with six points including two goals and two assists.

    Scouting ULM

ULM (0-8-0, 0-1-0 SBC) is winless on the season in eight games allowing an average of four goals per match. The Warhawks dropped a 4-0 decision to Texas State in their only conference action this season.

Freshman Mackenzie Bell leads the squad with two goals on the year, while freshman Cassidy Wiest is second on the team in points with three.

    Up Next

The Ragin' Cajuns continue their three-game homestand against Arkansas State on Friday, Sept. 28 with a 7 p.m. match. Louisiana then heads on the road for a pair of matches at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 5 and at Appalachian State on Oct. 7.

  6. UL Soccer Soccer Falls to 1-7 in Double Overtime Loss

Despite looking the better side for much of the match, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss to Texas State on Friday night at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.

Both the Ragin' Cajuns (1-7-2, 0-2-0 SBC) and Bobcats (4-5-0, 2-0-0 SBC) tallied 13 shots in the contest including six on frame. Sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ryan had four saves in the match, while freshman Kacie Pou had a career-high five shots and an assist.

    HOW IT HAPPENED

The Ragin' Cajuns held their opponent scoreless in the first half for the sixth time this season as the game remained knotted at 0-0 at the half.

Louisiana grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the 69th minute when Madysin Girouard lifted a shot over the head of the Texas State keeper for her first goal of the season.

The lead would be erased in the 79th minute on a header goal by Kaylee Davis off of a shot that hit the crossbar by Genesis Turman to make the score 1-all.

In the second overtime period, Ally Kewish collected a pass from Kelly Barbalias and beat a defender before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net for the game-winner for Texas State.

    UP NEXT

Louisiana continues its three-game homestand on Sunday at 1 p.m. as the squad hosts ULM at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility. Admission to the contest is free and live stats and video are available on RaginCajuns.com.

He just needs a couple more years to figure things out and right the ship.

He’s had a new facility and many years to generate a respectable team. If he loses to ULM, it will be the nail in his coffin.
