Tulane Not Up To The Challenge of Scheduling Louisiana!

You know, I guess I wear rose colored glasses, actually vermilion colored glasses, because I really don't see why other fan bases and Louisiana universities don't want anything to do with us. We should be playing LaTech and Tulane every other year and LaSue every four years in football. And we should be playing them in basketball, baseball and softball every year.

Is our university really hated and despised that much by other in-state universities that they can't see it would be in their best interest to include UL on their schedules. Not only does it become instant rivalries, but the monies it would generate at those games would be very beneficial for all involved.

So why are we hated so much? And do you think all the other instate schools feel the same way towards their own school?

I cannot answer all of your questions but I can tell you the root of why we are hated so much, it goes back to the 1960s. If you want a good reference go read Beryl Shipley’s book, it is explained very well why the rest of this state has developed a hate for us. Fast forward 20 Year’s the whole name change thing, in 83 ruffled many feathers also. It is very obvious to the rest of the state, that we are the one school that could separate itself from the rest of the schools that aren’t lsua&mbr, and they are jealous, and will try their best to hold us back.

I can only imagine where we’d be today if we didn’t have a fossil as president for 30 years, and we had the kind of vision we have today, since the 80s and 90s.

I happened to stumble across a Tulane site called "Fear the Wave" that I have never, ever heard of before. The link below is to a Soundcloud Pod Cast that features a conversation with Tulane A.D. Troy Dannen.

If you want to listen and get a laugh, at about the 27 minute mark, he admits that UL (he uses Lafayette) has been in contact with Tulane in an attempt to get a multi-year agreement in place between the schools to play Football (Maggard is obviously working hard). However, Mr. Dannen said he instead preferred a multi-year contract with Southern Miss because Tulane recruits against UL (Lafayette) and not against Southern Miss!!!! He is obviously not a student of geography, since Hattiesburg, MS is only 111 miles from NOLA and Lafayette is 135 miles away! He admits that Tulane cannot afford to loose to Louisiana.

I guess the winning and loosing part really doesn't have anything to do with it, because Billy Napier is kicking Tulane's butt in recruiting even without playing!

As far as I am concerned, Tulane can get in line to just "kiss our a_s_s" also!

I am confused. This guy apparently thinks the leopards are in Louisiana and he recruits against them. Julane should really aim higher for their recruits than this 1AA.

This is the answer... The rest of the state realize what is happening here and what advantages we have. Location. culture... facilities...now a top tier coaching staff and spending money on that staff... and most importantly, dating back to Beryl, we don't play by the established rules in this state. We don't bow to the "flagship"... We have stated our desire, intentions and plans to move to the next level...

If any of them are paying attention, and they are, they can look forward ten years and they don't like what they see...

The fossil set us back.... But that is the past. We need to continue to push forward aggressively... I think we need to stand up to a&m@br and if they don't agree with a straight home and home in all but football... tell them we are not interested...Continue the separation... There will be push back and we had better keep our nose clean... They will be looking for any reason to hammer us.. Ask Beryl... well you can't but you get what I am saying

Go back to 1939, UL went from nonexistent to the 2nd largest school in the State in only 39 years.

That same year a diverter school was established in SouthWestern Louisiana.

There's a lot of excitement when McNeese, Nicholls or Northwestern St. plays each other. No matter the records, the players, fans and supports get excited about the game.

I wish UL had that with LA Tech and Tulane. All boats would rise with the tide!

We do have it with Tech because we've played them in previous years and somewhat recently, especially in basketball.

There are more UL grads than you know that are fans of LSU and do not support UL athletics at all. They don’t attend Cajun games, nor do they support the program financially. I know several UL alumni that live right here in the Lafayette area that bleed purple and gold. Tons of La Tech grads are huge LSU fans as well.
