He will have to do better than that here for the team to continue to have success. 39 percent from three and 78 percent from the free throw lines are encouraging numbers however. I don't recall if we tried to recruit this kid out of HS. Many want to go further away from home when they start college. Now that it is out of his system, he may want to play where family and friends can more easily support him.

the rebounding drop was the first thing i noticed. for a 6-7 forward we will need more. i assume those can be explained away maybe with the system they ran, and other players being good rebounders. anyway, its good to see him come home, baton rouge is becoming ground zero for UL players.

We were in his final 4 when he signed. I read that in his signing story from a couple of years ago in the Advocate.

    He shot 152 3s. He's a stretch guy.

I have had someone else very close to the program confirm that we recruited him hard when he was in HS. Makes sense he chose us to come home.

However I also believe We would have taken a guy from Fresno had he committed first. Fresno guy went to UTEP as the former Fresno coach is the new guy at UTEP. Regardless Johnson is also highly thought of. Last Louisiana guy who transferred back home did fairly well. Frank Bartley was the Louisiana player of year in 2018. Maybe Johnson will be the same. More likely to achieve that is Kobe Julien who will redshirt this year due to injury. Julien and Johnson should prevent too big of a drop off after Stroman, Gant, and Marquite leave.
It is interesting because the guy that ended up at UTEP was from the same High School in California as Elijah Mcoy. It would have been a pretty small world if he had replaced him here. I like the Johnson transfer but my only concern is he seems so similar in style to Julien. I hope they can work with him on the rebounding as I think he will be needed more to fill Gant's role after he is gone.

He is a little taller than Julien but I agree he will need to focus on rebounding more to reach his potential here. They may use him in a “stretch” four role from what I understand
