He has better scoring stats at over 9 ppg at his previous location than any of our recent transfers. Noticed his rebounding average dropped from almost 6 per to roughly 4 per game from his freshman to his sophomore year. He will have to do better than that here for the team to continue to have success. 39 percent from three and 78 percent from the free throw lines are encouraging numbers however. I don't recall if we tried to recruit this kid out of HS. Many want to go further away from home when they start college. Now that it is out of his system, he may want to play where family and friends can more easily support him.
the rebounding drop was the first thing i noticed. for a 6-7 forward we will need more. i assume those can be explained away maybe with the system they ran, and other players being good rebounders. anyway, its good to see him come home, baton rouge is becoming ground zero for UL players.
It is interesting because the guy that ended up at UTEP was from the same High School in California as Elijah Mcoy. It would have been a pretty small world if he had replaced him here. I like the Johnson transfer but my only concern is he seems so similar in style to Julien. I hope they can work with him on the rebounding as I think he will be needed more to fill Gant's role after he is gone.
