This staff is going about it in the right way.....personally, I think there is a chance for 1 or 2 surprises on signing day....this coming week and weekend is going to be big....1st with home visits and then the recruiting weekend.....the stress on Coaches the last couple of weeks of the recruiting "season" are brutal...

As I said I will not comment on any single recruit and wait to see where we end up. By my count we need 6-7 players to step in immediately to salvage a winning season next year.
My narrative is that we suck at recruiting. A point that I think most of you would agree with. I do believe Napier is the guy to turn it around but it is not going to be easy, especially with Louisiana kids currently looking at us as option #4 in the state.

Well it appears I was wrong about basketball, but we had 7 years of nearly being good to base my predictions on.

Billy, Billy is brand spanking new.

I think the difference is in projecting and teaching. All staff's recruit kids like these at the G5 level, the difference is projecting their development and position, not just body types. The previous staff recruited too many combine athletes, more concerned about 40 times and the shuttle run. Too many of those kids didn't have natural positions and just didn't make enough plays at times.

It's easy to identify former high ranked athletes that transfer because of grades or character issues. You already know they are cable of playing, you just don't know if they will fit in your locker room and buy in to what you are trying to do as a staff. It's much harder to identify athletes that your can project their growth, teach and develop.

I don't think the perspective of the zealots has changed. For most recruits, UL has "beat out" the likes of McNeese, Nichols and Southern for "diamonds in the rough" going back to Jerry Baldwin. I am sure a couple of these recruits will be late bloomers, but most are no more than glorified FCS players who will never sniff a NFL training camp. For UL to compete with P5 schools on a regular basis, they need to consistently "beat out" G5 schools for recruits who also had offers from lower level P5 schools

Agree 100%. Projecting 1-2 star players is incredibly more difficult than signing 3-5 star athletes. I am patient. I see this as a multi-year turnaround project, so this staff will have a lot of leeway with me in the first couple of years.

Ok, this is sickening. For the first time ever, I agree with you. Maybe I have gone off the deep end.

MC, there's nothing wrong with trying to be objective and realistic, but sometimes trying to find every single wart and then complaining about it gets really tiring.

The last couple of years on this site as it relates to the football program in particular, and the athletic department and other programs in general, have been a real drag. Suddenly though, Robe has his new house, Looney Loteif is history, Scott Farmer is about as far away from here as he can be yet still be in the state next door, Hud has taken his show elsewhere, the new AD and our university president have spoken loudly and clearly with ACTIONS that they're serious about this athletic department by hiring a P5 offensive coordinator with name recognition and a strong resume and then given him the tools ($$$$$) to go out and put together a top-knotch staff that will get us where we want to be.

I'm ready for some freakin' excitment, not picking at warts.
