HUD leaves before finishing the job he got all the folks in Acadiana and UL buy into! CHARACTER is important don't tell me what you want to do and have everyone do there part and you not finish the JOB. I'm all about him moving on to bigger and better things, but don't tell us to hold on to the rope just so you can let go and have us fall!
IF he leaves, how about a "Thank you coach for taking our team to heights it hasnt reached in 41 years, and making our school an attractive place for whoever takes your place. Good luck down the road." Hud got this community to "grab the rope", its our job to hold onto it, no matter what, and with whoever is next.Quote:

Exactly...for me it would depend a lot on the job he left for after one year. If he leaves here for another mid-major with a miniscule pay raise, I'd be a little upset but I'd thank him for everything he's done in one short year. However, if he leaves for a job in the SEC, in NO WAY can I blame the man, and I'd help load his bags for him if he needed. That's something you don't pass up.Quote:

Some people need to get a clue in this fan base. It is way too soon to just jump ship on this program after the promises and goals that he set. Those fans that grabbed the rope can easily let go (other than the diehards) But I don't think the job of getting us to a bowl game was impossible cause we ALWAYS had the talent for the past 5-6 years. Look at it on both sides. We have never had to be worried about this before because we were never able to attract this good a coach. While I hate to lose HUD. He is not gone as of now. If something changes I have confidence that our administration will do what is right for the university. Let's just hope there is a hefty buy out for whoever wants him. Waldo, I understand your frustration. Are you still in school or in the working full time? If I am very successful at the company I am at, and another company offers over a million dollar raise to take my recourses to the other company, I would do it. Now, I wouldn't jump to another company for a "little" more money in a worse situation. Free market... love it or hate it, it brings out the best "product" in people. It takes holding on to the rope and you need leaders to grab on first. Hudspeth was standing up and saying I will build this program and he was stampeding and picking up people one after the other like a freight train. You know what happens when you stop a freight train going full speed ahead....It derails. They were/are on their 3rd coach since their success has begun, and each hire has been more important that the previous one. Now they are in a position where their current guy may not ever leave. They lost a coach to Arizona State, and parlayed what Dirk Koetter built into another great hire. They lost the next guy (Dan Hawkins) to Colorado, then made one more great hire, and now they've reached heights that not even they could have ever dreamed of. Mark Hudspeth will not be the coach here if those dreams ever become a reality at UL. He may end up being the guy that set it in motion, but we will probably need at least 2 more great hires before we would ever get there.Quote:

Yeah, you would hope that the next guy would be here for a bit longer. To your point about tenures, Koetter (I believe) was already there when Boise moved up to D1 and I think Hawkins stayed 5 seasons. So your point is definitely valid in that regard. What I'm saying is, Hud has made this attractive job to whoever is next, whether that is now or 5 years from now, and if/when he does leave, we will have more to offer in what will be the most important hire we will make.Quote:
