Definitely good news for the Cajuns. Both were extremely excited about their decisions when I spoke with them Monday night.

I remember Jace from that great Lafayette Little League World Series team from a few years back. Good addition.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
Awesome pickups. I know Chaz has been getting recruited since his Sophmore season by many of those teams. Coach Trahan attended nearly every game that Chaz threw this season. Glad the hard work paid off. He may not put up the greatest numbers this season as a lot of the good talent graduated for BBHS, but he's a stud.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
Both Jace and Chaz mentioned how much they liked coach Trahan, who worked incredibly hard to earn their commitments.

Amen!!!!!!!!!! this is what I have been screaming about when it comes to football... And yes yes yes... I know its tougher in football... but you have to get a couple of top level players recruited by the bigger programs from time to time....Most of our football recruits "chose UL over McNeese, Southeastern and Nicholls"....
Congrats to Coaches Robe and Trahan.... ..O....O..

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
It would be nice to add a young Robichaux, Osborne and Lucroy down the line as well. Assuming they dont get drafted and sign.
-
Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
I knew there was a young Robe and Luc out there, but I was not aware that Zach had a younger brother playing ball, that would be huge if we could get all three and they had the same drive an deterination that Justin, Jonathon and Zach had.
I said the same thing years ago about Papo Ramos little brother and it did not pan out.
But I believe that from what I have read about little Robe and little Luc, they will be fine at the college level.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
Congratulations to both young men and to the Cajun coaching staff. Looks to be two good prospects. I'm looking forward to watching them compete in the future. Congratulations to both families.

Zach's younger brother, Logan, is a rising senior at Clear Lake High School in Texas. He plays first base for the baseball team and on the defensive line for the football team.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
I'm so happy we got Jace. I got a chance to watch him play in the playoffs and he is a good player. It's also good that we finally got someone from our own back yard. We may or may not have this problem with our baseball team but i know our football team has trouble signing guys from the area. maybe that's not the case for baseball. I know we have a few guys on our team from acadiana, LHS, terlings, and other schools from the area but it doesnt seem like we get enough.
-
Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
By the way. Jace's younger brother Brenn is impressive too. he started last year at 3rd as a sophmore and was very good. he has a good arm and can hit well too. I know i'm thinking way ahead but i hope we are able to get him as well.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
Is it easier to recruit those type of players bacause we won the conference & went to a regional this year? I'm sure local kids want to stay closer to home, but winning solves a lot when it comes to recruting IMO.

Winning always has something to do with it, as does new upgraded facilities in the near future. My understanding is the baseball is now close to the number that is needed for the upgrade, thanks to some recent donations of several people including Paul Bako and BJ Ryan.
BTW, the Cajuns have four local juniors rated at the top of their boards in the 2011 Class, Conrad and Hebert are two of them.

He's a man. Saw him at the regionals in Austin and he's a big ol boy.

About half of the roster is from within a 25 mile radius of campus.

I love hearing that former athletes like Bako and Ryan are giving back. That is great news. They were at UL while I was there, so it even is more important to me.
Geaux Cajuns!!!!!
Do you realize there has been a Cajun Catcher in the Major Leagues every year since 1998. Paul Bako held that distinction from 1998-2009, now J-Luc is carrying on the tradition, I would love to see Chad Keefer continue that tradition as well, but I can not see where Chad is playing anywhere according to www.milb.com.
Anyone have any information on him?

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
Speaking of David Lucroy: Spoke with him earlier today. He committed last night to East Carolina.

Keefer was drafted in the 28th round by the Marlins. He was to have a screw removed from his foot July 12. Played all year with it after hurting foot last summer.

yea now that i think about it that is just a problem with our football team. Our baseball team does a great job of bringing local talent. I hope they continue to do so.

Re: Cajun baseball gains two commitments
I know this is a little off topic but Josh, what's the word on the Florida basketball transfer that was considering the cajuns?
