Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
Really isn't fair to compare Mike to Gerry. When Mike was coaching, softball was an after thought for a lot of schools. Now the P5's are putting more money into their program and getting better facilities, players, and coaches. Mike was not much of a recruiter and got lucky with players that now probably wouldn't have even looked at the Cajuns.
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
Yeah, that’s the reason for me asking. The game has changed now with the big boys actually investing some real dollars into it.
So those who still expect us to be a Super Regional team at least one out of every three years, what should be done with the program to achieve that?
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
Never mind….
For a minute there I thought I was reading the Basketball Excuses thread.

Keep in mind the the program is losing 50K this year just on the 50/50 raffle. 50K is a huge hit to a program like the Cajuns. We do more with 50K than the big boys do with 500K.

Can the Cajuns compete for P5 softball players when it comes to NIL deals? Cajuns fans better open their wallets.

What happened to the 50/50?

Then why in the world was it discontinued?

According to the experts on this board they can. How else would Glasco have landed the “#1 recruiting classes” in back to back years?

He never landed the #1 classes back to back. He landed the #1 and the #11 and that was before the NIL, so not really equally comparable.

Some idiot reported them to the gaming commission and cash money has to be handled a certain way. I did find out that they are working to bring it back for next season, but just a lot of red tape with cash money procedures. Back in the day officials for high school used to get paid cash right after the games, now schools report that and you have to pay back taxes on it.

Wow
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
That is what you call petty interference for $50,000
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
State now requires gambling permits for raffles and no state employee can apply for one effectively ending all raffles and bingos for the university

What a bottle of vinegar and water.
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
It was 15K, not 50K. Either way, we lose a lot of money.

Craig me and about 6 others were told 50K. Like you said still a big loss.

When did NIL take effect?

The second post you quoted said SHOULD be ranked#1 in my opinion. Now that the NIL takes effect I doubt we will still land those number classes.
Re: Ragin Cajuns Softball
It isn't just the big boys investing, although I think that is a major factor. I believe we are also seeing SBC softball getting better (not saying that was hard to do), honestly some years I believe our 2nd nine players could've still won the conference.
We do and should have the expectation of winning the conference, however expecting the domination that we displayed in the past is probably not realistic.
