Thread: Ragin Cajuns Softball

  1. UL Softball Ragin Cajuns Softball

UL Softball has another weekend of Sun Belt play. This weekend they took on the Georgia Southern Eagles. The first game was moved to Saturday due to inclement weather, so Saturday they played a doubleheader where they won the first game and lost the second. Well, Sunday they faced the Eagles again to end the weekend series and the Cajuns came out and dominated. The Cajuns won via the run-rule 12-1!

So yes, we are seeing the team this season perform way below what Cajuns fans have even used to since Coach Yvette built the program.

Yes, we have yet to get to a Super Regional since Coach Glasco took over. We didn’t make it the year before, but did the previous five season.

There seems to be a good bit of upsetness and discontent amongst some of the fanbase, especially here.

My question is this. If you’re of the opinion Coach Glasco isn’t the guy, then who is?

Keep in mind, the big money boys have greatly increased their investment in softball, especially the SEC schools, over the past 5-7 years. We aren’t in the days of the first decade and first half of the second decade of the 21st Century.

If you believe the program should go a different direction, then where should we look? Keep in mind that while we likely invest way more in softball than other SBC programs, our investment compared to P5 programs is at a disadvantage. Our tradition and name likely still caries some influence for prospective coaches and recruits, but these days, how much to entice them?

Really isn't fair to compare Mike to Gerry. When Mike was coaching, softball was an after thought for a lot of schools. Now the P5's are putting more money into their program and getting better facilities, players, and coaches. Mike was not much of a recruiter and got lucky with players that now probably wouldn't have even looked at the Cajuns.

Yeah, that’s the reason for me asking. The game has changed now with the big boys actually investing some real dollars into it.

So those who still expect us to be a Super Regional team at least one out of every three years, what should be done with the program to achieve that?

For a minute there I thought I was reading the Basketball Excuses thread.

Keep in mind the the program is losing 50K this year just on the 50/50 raffle. 50K is a huge hit to a program like the Cajuns. We do more with 50K than the big boys do with 500K.

Can the Cajuns compete for P5 softball players when it comes to NIL deals? Cajuns fans better open their wallets.

    What happened to the 50/50?

Then why in the world was it discontinued?

According to the experts on this board they can. How else would Glasco have landed the “#1 recruiting classes” in back to back years?

He never landed the #1 classes back to back. He landed the #1 and the #11 and that was before the NIL, so not really equally comparable.

Some idiot reported them to the gaming commission and cash money has to be handled a certain way. I did find out that they are working to bring it back for next season, but just a lot of red tape with cash money procedures. Back in the day officials for high school used to get paid cash right after the games, now schools report that and you have to pay back taxes on it.
