The answer is to get the government out of the process. Bring more free market pressure to bear. Costs will come down and different systems of education delivery will be introduced.
Still a good idea to save money anyway.
While I agree that some degrees are more valuable than others, there is NO degree that is not worth the cost at an institution like UL. A degree, ANY degree, is worth 7 figures over an average lifetime. It is probably not worth it to send your child to Stanford to get a degree in Education, but even a general studies degree from UL is a bargain, from a ROI standpoint..
Re: UL System board approves tuition and fees
We could adopt the way UT and TAMU assesses tuition. Makes the most sense. They charge different amounts for different majors. They also lock in your tuition from your first semester so you don't see any increase while you attend school.

That's exactly what I did for my 2 but they were each $150/month. By the time they got to college they had a few $ saved up. One was on TOPS Performance and the other on TOPS Honors. That really made a difference.

How many kids in the classroom? How many classrooms?

Damn it! If only I had decided to get my masters a year earlier.

What's tuition at SLCC for a full schedule? Should we expect to see a rise in enrollment there, especially for freshmen and sophs?

I don't know the answer to that; but the presence of SLCC as, essentially a JUCO, in Lafayette, along with selective admissions, has raised our graduation rate significantly. I expect that higher tuition at UL will guide more local underclassmen toward SLCC, which is not a bad thing for UL, provided we get them when they graduate there.

It's broken into age groups. Not many classes per age group (2 at most, I believe?). It looks like there are maybe 15 kids max, possible 20?? I don't have the exact numbers to give....
It's a difficult check to write each month....
FYI--> The "unmentioned" school is a good one, nothing bad to say about it except the numbers scribbled onto my check at the beginning of the month. (P.S. It's more than a mortgage payment)
