Drink up my brothers!
The brokebacks have plans in the works for a new 5000 seat basketball arena with a volleyball and basketball practice court attached. It will be built north of the current football stadium, where some apartments currently stand. Facility will have a similar feel to what many here desire for a Cajun basketball facility. So perhaps they aren't as broke as we think they are.

Re: Summer Bourbon/Scotch/whiskey thread
Ok to get back on topic. I am normally a straight bourbon drinker, meaning I like my bourbon on the rocks or straight up. Does any one drink Manhattans or Whiskey Sours? I had a Manhattan last night and I will say it was not bad. Next is try the Whiskey Sours mix that I purchased.

I like Manhattans. I'm a purist though, so I gotta do it with rye. IMO, if it's done with anything else, it isn't a Manhattan.

Thanks I didn't know about the rye. I did have mine last night with rye. I can see why you want to mix rye with some thing else. I am not a big fan of rye, but then again I have not had rye whiskey in about 25 years. It is time to broaden my horizons, thanks for the info.

That's because you probably never had good rye. Purple label don't count.

I like a rye sense of humor.
You have to have one when someone gives you a slice of rye bread. :)
Oh wait that's wry ;)

Re: Summer Bourbon/Scotch/whiskey thread
Back to the more important things of summer. I just picked up a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 year old and a bottle of W.L. Weller 12 year old. Looking forward to spending the weekend with my little ones.

Re: Summer Bourbon/Scotch/whiskey thread
I picked up some Sam Houston Whiskey yesterday at lunch and busted it open last night. Very smooth for the price and being from Texas :)

Too many great things being done by both camps to limit oneself to one or the other.

I have not, but I have heard some good things about it. I did have Texas 1835 Whiskey this weekend. Not the best, but I was able to drink it for a couple of hours.

This is the funniest thing I have read today!

Re: Summer Bourbon/Scotch/whiskey thread
Ok picked up a bottle of Bulleit Rye for Manhattans. I must say that I have mis-judged Rye whiskeys over the years. I did not know that Basil Hayden's had rye in their mix. I am starting to broaden my horizons when it comes to bourbons.
Also Albertons has the Bulliet Rye and Bulliet Bourbon for $9 off, Basil Hayden's was $5 off. Lots of specials going on at Albertons and the store on Ambassador Caffery has a very nice selections of high/mid bourbons.

Re: Summer Bourbon/Scotch/whiskey thread

I've been obsessed with making old fashioneds every which way I can think of the last few weeks, and have mixed in some Sazerac Cocktails to mix it up....so the whole bottle was used in cocktails. I honestly don't know how it is on the rocks. I guess I need to get another bottle to find out!

Good to know about the specials at Albertson's. Bulliet may be my whiskey of choice for the 4th of July weekend. And glad you took my suggestion on putting rye in the Manhattan.

Thanks for the info. Also if you find a recipe that you like and wouldn't mind sharing it, I would appreciate it very much. I am just starting to mix drinks with bourbon and as I said earlier trying to expand my horizons.
Thanks again!
