You'll have to excuse our skepticism. All of us would love to have those things in place. And we know many of those plans have been around for awhile. We have seen the architect's drawing that Gerald has. We've just been burned so many times in the past getting our hopes up for a change inthis administration's attitude towards fully implementing people's plans and ideas. That's why we all have this cautious "show me" attitude. But if you are correct and these things begin to take concrete shape in the near future I will be glad to eat a double helping of crow.:D

I heard talk about this last year after we beat Houston in football, and then we went in the craper and I haven't heard anything until this thread.

Trust me, if all of those things come to pass I won't need any seasoning on condiments to enjoy that dish! :)

Why hasn't anyone publicized this? Because, very simply, it's all conjecture right now. There has been talk of doing all of what drumroll said, but until they get all the money in place, it's just a pipe dream. It will all happen eventually, but no way for 2009.
You could, however, be hearing a major announcement soon concerning something else. But it won't happen til all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed.
No one in their right mind would announce something large like this without having all the answers for the questions that are bound to come.

Re: New Turf on Cajun Field
And... this forum is for speculation, conjecture and inuendo. Remember, the rumor starts here! Let me see... why would our athletic department not announce the rock solid plans for so many tremendous developments? Maybe they haven't reached "rock solid" yet.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone sharing a little insider crystal balling on here. Again, on "here". Oh, but why wouldn't we announce it to the world thru our local media channels so that we can market and energize our following with these fantastic plans? Even if they were moving along well... a planned schedule gets mentioned... a little time passes... no action... here come the professional keyboard critics... all negatives... no positives.
"Yes, it's nice... but I found the colors a tad wounded and the sentitive spot on my underworked, flattened-out middle-aged blubber-butt wasn't real comfortable when it landed on the unpadded crapper lid. Did I mention it was noisy too... "
...would you like a little cheese with that whine sir?
I'm fired up that someone threw out some pretty cool projects that are in a variety of funding and developmental formations. I equally enjoy reading the "profound sincereness of the absolutely guaranteed possibilities" coupled with the "desperate demand of instantaneous validiation of these shadowy enigmas". It's a blast.

I don't guess that you'd be willing to elaborate, huh BOP?
This makes a lot more sense. Its not like I didn't believe some of the stuff that drumroll was saying, but I figured that it hadn't been announced because it wasn't set in stone yet.
I do think that it would be a good thing to announce when the start of the Athletic Foundation is announced. That list of wants is a nice set of preliminary goals to sell to people to let them know what the purpose of the AF is. i.e., have these things listed on the AF's website WITH PRELIMINARY DRAWINGS (words do nothing, picture is worth a 1000 words, etc.), or have them listed in a pamphlet WITH PRELIMINARY DRAWINGS, that's handed out to people at games and so forth, when they are trying to amp up membership.
I think that having some of these drawings would help with garnering support from those alumni outside of Lafayette, who don't get to make it back all that much, especially are successful former players. Especially if there was a well done before and after image, drawn by a great computer program, to really show how great some of these things could look.

What is this old hotel that you speak of? And what is it being renovated for?
-
Re: New Turf on Cajun Field
My bet he is referring to the Conference Center on Rex Street (former Agnes Edwards Dorm). CACS/Computer Science moved out of the 4th floor earlier this year into their new building. The university has been renovating the floor to turn into additional student housing (like the 2nd and 3rd floors).

Nike and Adidas in the lead? Nice. But what about the Field Turf? Didn't you say this would begin soon?

Oh, I forgot, I have a secret, but I can't tell any of you what it is. Trust me when I say that it could quite possibly be sweet, although I am not sure and do not want to speculate.:D

They want to have it completed for Spring Practice, but since that is scheduled early this year, mid-summer may be more realistic.

P.S. can you make sure there is no flaming pepper on this field? oh and you can leave out the lafayette too. oh and light and dark shades on green every 5 yards would look wonderful. but first and foremost, NO PEPPER. thanks

I again take this oppurtunity to second everything you've said, just in case anyone with stroke is reading. although, not sure about the alternating colors every 5 yards. I like the way that it looks most of the time, but I also like the one that Ohio St has where the color is the same as grass, unlike the turf in the Superdome where you can tell its fake.

Don't know about the rest of you but the turf in the Dome looks dark/dull. Maybe its the lighting; but it does not look good on TV.

I know this: If the University puchases the same type of turf that Jefferson Parish just purchased this past year for their two main high school stadiums, CAJUN FIELD will look OUTSTANDING. .~..~..~.
