The state Class 3A offensive most valuable player is one the latest commitments to join the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's growing recruiting list.
St. Charles Catholic-LaPlace running back Tyrell Fenroy, who accounted for 82 career touchdowns, committed to UL-Lafayette after visiting the school two weeks ago.
The Ragin' Cajuns have 21 commitments after the events of the past two days. They gained a commitment from defensive lineman LaQuincy Williams of Berkner High in Dallas, but have apparently lost out on defensive back Arthur Stubblefield, who switched his commitment to North Texas, according to the Ft. Worth Star Telegram.
"They got a real coup, he's a heck of a player," St. Charles coach Frank Monica said about Fenroy. "He flew under the radar screen of some people. I thought he'd have more traffic to go through, but I thought UL-Lafayette handled the recruiting process well and were up front with him all the way."
The addition of the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Fenroy, who was timed at 4.33 in the 40 as a junior, gives UL-Lafayette its second dynamic running back to go along with Deon Wallace of Houston-Worthing.
Fenroy, who is academically qualified, selected the Cajuns over Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Oregon, Arkansas State and Central Michigan.

"It's basically the same offense we ran in high school so I don't think I should have any problems adapting to their system," Fenroy said.
Williams, a 6-2, 260-pounder, earned All-District 10-5A honors and honorable mention All-State laurels after recording 86 tackles as a senior. He chose the Cajuns over an offer from Texas State.
Fenroy was a three-year starter for Monica, a former Tulane assistant. He rushed for 4,342 yards.
Fenroy enjoyed a banner senior season in which he carried 207 times without fumbling, gaining 2,176 yards and 39 touchdowns. He was responsible for a total of 44 TDs, earning. Besides all-state honors, he was All-Metro and All-River Parishes.
"I think when I get there," Fenroy said, "hopefully I'll have an impact on them offensively and we'll be good in the future."
Cajun notes
UL-Lafayette, with one more weekend of official visits left, is in contention for a pair of in-state prospects in Northside-Lafayette wide receiver/defensive back Tyson Andrus, who is scheduled to visit Friday, and Neville-Monroe defensive tackle Troy Phan.
The Cajuns are also finalists for Florida prospects, defensive lineman Eldred Jones of Deerfield Beach and wide receiver Sanchez Anderson of Miami.

We have some big linemen @ UL already and sevral coming in this year. With the Backs we have coming in HOW MANY BIG LINEMEN DO YOU THINK WILL COME IN NEXT YEAR WITH A SUNBELT CHAMPIONSHIP, BOWL GAME, INDOOR PRACTICE FACILITY, AND WEIGHTROOM DOUBLED FOR LOUISIANA!!!!!!!
DaddyCajun OUT!
Exactly DC! "Build it and they will come." Bustle is building it. When we sign these 2 stud RB's and with the addition of a practice facility, they will come. We're getting them now. Before, we weren't even a blip on the radar for the higher tier players. Now we are and are getting them.
I almost forgot! 3 stud RB's. Come on down Jason Chery!
It was nice to see the Fenroy's at the annual Vermilion & White game.
It may be the last time for many years that Tyrell gets to sit in the stands as a fan for a U-Louisiana football game.
I can't wait to see him as well as Deon Wallace and Jason Chery suit up for the cajuns.
