Ok, that is what I thought, but thought maybe I was confused. I have been confused before, but then I just have another drink and I am fine.
We are in a five game winning streak against 4 terrible teams and one pretty good team. The people on KPEL/ESPN 1420 are going gaga over how much better the team has gotten. Bob Marlin's seat is safe as the local sports media (those that count) are almost campaigning for him to get a raise and a contract extension. There was only one call that I heard in two days that questioned the quality of competition.
UL five game winning streak:
GA Southern 7-12 RPI 282
GA State 12-6 RPI 133
South AL 8-12 RPI 229
Troy 6-15 RPI 318
Texas State 9-8 RPI 264
I'm so proud!!! :/\:
Competition improves next two games. We will see if their improved play will carry over to those teams. Now we have been handling the recent opponents fairly easily which is a reason some are encouraged. We actually need to see how we respond in a tight contest. Do the guys have the mental toughness to make the critical plays at crunch time is something I wonder about. On the other hand, I have heard no one discuss future contract extensions in any fashion. I doubt seriously another will be given after this season regardless how it turns out.
I think just about everything has been explained.
To have a chance in the NCAA (e.g. decent seeding) you play people pre-conference who won't come to the Cajundome in hopes of winning.
The team can't schedule games most of the time for practice, pre-conference, and postseason at the Cajundome.
There isn't enough money to buy out of conference games the fans want to see.
That locks us in an annual rut of slow start, and decent finish.
Unless we can give a coach the chance of working out of that rut, things might be exceptional every once in a while, but not as a rule. That's why a coach keeps his job. The next one may give you a temporary spike but it won't last. Unless the money and availability of Dome Sweet Dome improves.
We're also in the Sunnyside Up Conference, which eats at me like cooties oozing out of an infected wound.
I've given until it hurts, which means we need to sell more people on the vision.
That's why, as best as I've been able to piece together, is why things more or less stay the same.
