Shrimp Po Boy and the best cheeseburger in town. That's definitely a start.
I'm interested in more discussion about Prejean's. Some have called it a tourist trap (but hey, I'm a tourist) and overrated but others seem to swear by it. Good food and live music sounds awesome. Food seems a little pricy, but a great atmosphere is worth something too.
Is it a decent place for kids? I may be entertaining a couple of 12-year-olds Friday night while my brother and his wife have a date night.
Also, is it likely to be very crowded Friday night? I don't know how much waiting an hour on a table appeals to me.
I can't help you with Prejean's since I don't go out for Cajun food. I think my girlfriend likes their barbecued crabs though. (Now that I think about it, that might be Randol's)
At Fat Pat's, get the pork n' bean sandwich. Fried porkchop covered in redbeans and pepperjack cheese. It's amazing.
Do yourself a favor and get breakfast at the French Press.

My kid loves the peanut butter bacon burger at Fat Pats... Had the pulled pork nachos last week.. those were good.. and HUGE!
Be ready to wait in Lafayette... we crowd up easy.
dms.. i'll say this. I ate at La Fondas a few times.. .probably 10 years ago and it was so bad I've never considered going back. Things may have changed but there are soooo many really good places here to eat I haven't had to. As far as mexican goes now I goto La Pagua regularly for my fix... also Agave.

It's okay, but nothing special now. The protions used to as large as the price so it was a good deal. Now, for dinner expect to pay at least $30-60 for an entree alone and either order appetizer & desert, or expect to leave still hungry. Just not worth the money when comapare to many other local places who serve great specialties at a fraction of the price. Just my opinion. Now, if money is no object & you want to be somebody. Then it's the place to go.
I was going to ask where is the positive was in your post?
Then I noticed "comapare" is that what happens when you pass out eating good food?
Re: First time visitor to Lafayette
So what's for lunch today in Lafayette? This thread has me hungry.

If you decide against Prejeans, I would suggest Poor Boy's Riverside Inn. Great seafood, family friendly.
Re: First time visitor to Lafayette
Has anyone mentioned Fezzo's yet...they are the best seafood restaurant in the area. And did I miss something where Judice Inn is no longer the best burger in town? That's news to me.

You know me Turbine. I'm just keeping it real. I used to love that place. They did some things which drove me away. Don's, Fezzo's Landry's Guidry's, Poor Boy's Riverside Inn, Shuck's, & Pat's in Henderson are all just as good with way better prices & service these days. Again, just my opinion.
Re: First time visitor to Lafayette
I really liked the Mile High Burger at Fat Pat's. One 7oz patty with grilled yellow, red, green peppers, onions and shredded jalapeno cheese on a sweet bun with special sauce, lettuce, pickles and tomato for $8.90. All burgers come with fries. Have to say it was pretty tasty, and sorry it sounded like an advertisement but I loved the taste or grilled veggies on top a burger.
I love Morvant's in Youngsville, but if we try to send out-of-towners there they may not ever make it back home. :D

That place is good. Try the seafood salad, yummo delish.
