Re: Trey Amos in the portal
It is what college football is today. We are far from the only school that this happens to. Mid majors and lower level P5's will continue to get poached by the big boys, aka top level P5's. I'm sure they operate in a totally legal and above board manner just like I believe Will Wade is a person of high moral and ethical character.

I’m fishing in the same hole as you.
I never thought I’d see the day, but I seriously hesitated when hitting renew on my season tickets. I just don’t see how my attitude will get better next year.

I've already done this. Sad to say

This. Pretty much to the point where I’m not going to care to even bother watching Cajuns football, which is a bummer because football has always been my favorite sports to watch.
I need to start appreciating Cajuns baseball even more.

Don’t give up. We need all of you at the games, but I know the feeling.
Des has to start using the portal. He will have no choice if he wants to keep his job.

I barely want to watch on the patio anymore. College football was fun while it lasted, I guess.

We do not have the funds to get players in the portal. It’s hard to keep homegrown talent when the P5 programs are offering closer to $200k for our guys.

I’m not a very frugal person when it comes to spending money on Cajuns sports. I renewed my tickets on Sunday and was very reluctant to do it. I love traveling to the away games but it’s more about the company I am traveling with and the fans I’ve met over the years from opposing teams fan bases. It’s the same with actually being at Cajun field. It’s more about the company and less about what is going on with the actual games. Maybe it’s cause I’m getting older and I’m not a kid that looks up to these college players. Maybe it’s what is going on with college football these days. It just isn’t fun anymore. And if these kids see that fans don’t want to be at Cajun field on Saturdays then I really can’t blame them for going to a place where people actually care. Playing in front of 80-100k rabid fans beats playing in front of 7-15k every time. I think we missed the boat when we didn’t capture those younger fans during huds first few years. It’s a shame really.

ESPN 1420 Ragin Cajuns Trey Amos Enters the Transfer Portal
The Ragin Cajuns are looking to make a splash in year 2 of head coach Michael Desormeaux. Well, they may be losing one of their best defensive backs in Trey Amos as he enters the transfer portal. Continue reading…

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
I honestly feel as though there will be an over correction eventually. The system of offering 17 and 18 year old kids the kind of money being thrown around cannot sustain itself in the long run, with the exception of maybe a few programs.
Or at least that’s what I tell myself to sleep better at night.

You’re right there. There is no such thing as Amateur sports in college anymore

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
With players getting paid, I’m almost to the point that I’m only willing to pay for tickets, and the minimum to RCAF to get parking passes I want.
Want to be treated as professionals? Then be like professional organizations & don’t ask for me donations.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
SOMETHINGS gonna change. At what point are the donors shelling out millions of dollars to players now, with no money left to give to the schools they play for. At some point we have to reach stasis. Where and when that point is reached remains to be seen. Innovative coaches and schools will find a way to thrive/survive until then.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
Ive been calling kids who didn't stay "recROUXted" Burnt ROUX for many years...
.. I just never expected the fire of a disgruntled athlete, a California congress, a judge who didn't understand the value of scholarships and amateurism, and then the deep pockets of the impetuous to just come in and torch the ROUX process.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
Not gonna be too disappointed to see a kid go out and get himself $150K-$200K. The more disappointing thing to me is the obsession with power ingrained in our society and the reactions to not having it. The two most prevalent reactions seem to be to 1. try to align with it 2. give up.

Agreed. Players get all the money in their pocket, but sooner or later the facility upgrades will slow down and won’t be the Taj Mahals all the players EXPECT.
For 90% (if not more?) of schools, they can’t do both pay players and build first class facilities.
And the reality is, for those schools that can do both, the players are coming after those funds so at what point will they not be able to keep up either (the supers)?

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
The sooner the bigger schools break away, the better. It is time to pull the bandaid off of the scab and have a little bleeding.

And even in this day and age of APR, there has to be a few Dexter Manleys out there, who will expose the system. It’s about buying players, education be damned.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
I understand from a fan standpoint that it's tough to watch this play out, but let's slow down on pulling the support of actually buying tickets and sitting in the stands. This is a program that absolutely needs all the support it can get. Crazy just over a year removed from a 13-1 season and back-to-back years finishing in the CFP rankings.
We lost a good player to the shady business of college football as it is in 2023. Yes, we can be mad. I am and I hate the state of college athletics with the portal and NIL. But let's not add to a problem that we know we already have and just say "screw it, I'll watch from home."
The coaching staff and the administration have to get smart, plan, anticipate, use NIL and the portal to their advantage as they can. Play the business game themselves even if it means just being in a position to keep players who are being courted away. And make no mistake, that's what is often times happening when your top talent leaves.
Last offseason, we were decimated by the portal. This year, we lost a good player, but come out looking a hell of a lot better than 2021/2022. Let's see where this thing goes.

For G5:
ESPN+ took the casual fans.
NIL/Transfer Portal is sweeping the leg of the diehards.
It's funny because I remember Trey's stepdad posting this on Twitter during the Billy Exodus: "Ride with the guys that wanna be here."

College football is dying, I equate it to minor league baseball at this point and if I want to watch professionals I'll stick with the highest level (NFL). College basketball also hasn't been the same for me since the one year and gone change many years ago.

Re: Trey Amos in the portal
I just don't understand why boosters think giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to these kids to maybe get an extra win or 2 is worth it. What does it do for your ego? It's just entertainment. I'll continue to go to games because I like watching live sports, but I can't see myself giving extra donations to RCAF just to watch our best players go elsewhere.

Skyrocketing insurance rates (home & auto) and we have injury lawyers bankrolling TSAB's roster.
