Context matters. I watched Iowa’s elite 8, final four and national championship game. That’s 3 more women’s games than I’ve watched in 20 years. And it was all because of Clark.

Exactly. Even with her in the tournament, I still didn't watch a single women's basketball game. LoL

Granted the center court logo was large and irregular shaped, but she jacked a few shots and made them with a foot on the logo.
Next year I’d expect defenders to be rotated out and pick her up in the backcourt

They had superior team execution on offense while still generating great defense. This season should serve as a wake up call to the men's game. If they don't start putting emphasis on ball handling & more half court offense The men's game could suffer at the hands of women's basketball. This is not new. It is a trend which has been going on for a while now.
Go watch a season of women's games and compare. That LSU-Iowa game was not the norm. Women's games are generally lower scoring and the sport is very top heavy. It's really not even a comparison. LSU averaged 5 made 3 pointers a game for the season. That was not the norm.
BTW, the men's game was well played with good defense. If you had seen SDSU play at all you'd know they're one of the best defensive teams in the country and win in the 50's and 60's. UCONN is a highly skilled team that was very deep.

If you think a well played game includes a team that doesn't make a basket in 11 minutes and 8 seconds, I'd hate to see a poorly played game.

Kyle may be on to something here. If the powers that be in the NCAA and the WNBA are smart, they use this game as a launching point to grow the game beyond its diehard fans. The Angel Reese/Caitlin Clark rivalry could be women's basketball's version of Magic vs. Bird, but that rivalry will only propel WBB to mass popularity if the sports leaders, especially the WNBA once the they go pro, market the hell out of the two. The sport already got a major boost this year with a weekly Sunday game on ABC. Sunday's game could be an even bigger catalyst to the sport's popularity.
Will WBB ever become more popular than MBB? I don't know. For now, the priority for game's coaches and administrators is now to worry about eclipsing the men's game. Rather, that priority should be to continue growing the sport.

Congratulations to BWK for a great troll of a thread.

Here’s today’s fun fact. Of course, the leading cause was nobody really cared if SDSU was there, much less UCONN. When the rubber meets the road when a G5 crashes a championship game, the vast bulk of the viewers will be only from the two participants.
Odds are “order” will be restored next year, two blue bloods on the men’s side and UCONN on the WBB side will finally be healthy with Page Buckners.
ALWAYS, always follow the money.

Its equivelant to a UL football game, you can't expect crowds witbout promotion year round.
In this case that's what happens to interest, when you Pimp the 5 all year and don't promote anything else.
Can't expect interest in a game that you spent zero time all year promoting the participants.
Re: Could NCAA Women's basketball over take NCAA men's basketball?
I think the WNBA is trying to capitalize on a Clark-Reese rivalry like Johnson-Bird was in order to give the league a jolt like the NBA got

The demographics that drive television markets would prefer watching these two play pickleball instead of any WNBA or NCAA WBB player

Someone said earlier that WBB is very top heavy. That can't be emphasized enough as many people don't realize how severe that problem is . There is a huge dropoff after the top 10 teams in America to the next level. You can't build the sport until that changes. Otherwise no one pays attention until the Final 4.

Great point.
There’s UCONN, ND, usually about 3 SEC teams, Baylor, TOSU, Iowa, Stanford. The winner usually comes from half that bunch.
Louisville, Miami, Texas, UCLA, Ole Miss and a few of the “you’re telling me there’s a chance” crowd.
After that forget it.
If anyone thinks WBB is a great draw, explain why the first rounds are hosted on campus by the highest seed? Easy, not enough interest.
