Re: ROUX: Kyle Cox commits to Louisiana
At 6'4" and 230# this kid will be a DE. I don't know too many LB's who are 6'4". I am sure he will get bigger. I like what I see from the film. Of course I hope he puts on another 20-30 or so pounds. We have a history of DE's who weigh about 240 and it is time to step it up.

He seems like a tweener - DE/LB. The coaching staff probably sees something in his raw skills, work ethic, leadership, potential size (genetic evaluation), hs coaches evaluation, etc. I want to see the prototypical LB or DE, with given size, speed and experience at their respective position, be the ones we recruit. But, I also know that we may be in a situation that we target an outstanding player/person, overlooked by many due to a current deficiency in one of the "obvious" categories, and work with them. That certainly isn't ideal... but we could get guys in here that "look like" prototypical specimens on paper and maybe even on these video highlights, and turn out to be duds.
Re: ROUX: Kyle Cox commits to Louisiana
Lets not forget that you are watching a video from his Junior year.

Size counts, speed counts, but the thing that counts the most is heart. Steve Smith no 89 is too small, Drew Breez is too short with only average arm strength. I know one thing, our coaches recruit football PLAYERS and you cannot measure that with a tape measure. I seem to remember a couple of national championship Bama teams that had undersized lineman as well.
LSU had an undersized back or two one outstanding one was named Sammy Martin whose coach was scared to put on the field. Brian Mitchell was too short, Jake Delhomne was too skinny, Damon Mason from LaPlace was too short, and too small yet he is on the wall of fame.
Point is I always give UL recruits 100% backing because just like your date she said yes and deserves to be treated like a queen.

There is a HUGE difference in overall speed in college. I know from experience. The high school 4.4's turn into 4.6-7's in college. College recruiting is all about projecting future player development.
IMO, this guy looks to have a great frame, movement and mechanics to be a very good DE.
At OLB, a guy like Fleming from STM would be a much needed pickup.

Theses all camp numbers from the summer. He is more likely 6-3 then 6-4. But he has time to grow. Most don't stop growing at 18 yrs old.
Re: ROUX: Kyle Cox commits to Louisiana
Well I'll say this, he sure has good hands. Because his hands were the only thing that tackled those guys. I watched that film and not only is he standing upright most of the time, but he arm and leg tackled way too many times. Granted I haven't seen too much of him, but the only time he wraps up is on one of the sacks early in the film the rest are just desperate grabs. I wish him the best of luck and he looks like he's got a little speed. I just hope he comes in and can get some fundamentals down. The last thing this team needs is more arm tackling.
P.S. I'm not trying to rip on this kid.. I really want him to have a successful career here at UL.
Re: ROUX: Kyle Cox commits to Louisiana
Concrete facts:
6'4, 239 pounds
Current 40 time is 4.65.
That tape is from his JUNIOR year. You would be pleasantly surprised to see a tape from this past year. HUGE, HUGE differance.
