Re: McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite
If it's me, I'm taking the invite. The Shrine game was nice, but the Senior Bowl is basically the NFL equivalent of a coaching convention. All the teams' staffs and GMs are in town watching practice and talking to players.
That said, I also get why he'd decline. He had a nice week and game, and as far as we know he made it out healthy. Add what will hopefully be good performances at the combine and UL Pro Day and he's done a lot to help himself. But like I said, if it's me, I'm there. I want to get in front of as many eyes as possible and show teams that I'm more than what's on film from the last 2 years.
Of course, I'm me and he's about to start an NFL career, so what do I know. I don't blame him for trusting his agent.
Re: McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite
Last year William Jackson was in the same boat and skipped the senior bowl. It hurt him so bad he went into the first round. If you already have the impact plays on film why risk the opportunity to get hurt? Last week he proved he can make plays against touted players. Now he just has to get in shape for the combine. I am confident Elijah will do well in the league and in life.
Re: McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite
I was told he is a combine invite. Announcement soon.

Agree. I'm sure Eli is being advised well. He made his mark. He probably cannot add value with another bowl. Only risk injury or potentially not show well. On to the combines...
Re: McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite
You're right. He won't get to go offfir a couple hundred yards in an all star game.
Re: McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite
I'm sure he and his agent have their reasons, but the biggest value of the Senior Bowl is the week leading up to it. Practice time and the countless interviews with coaches and organizational people. The game is basically irrelevant in comparison.
Elijah McGuire Earns Elite Invitation Before NFL Draft
Elijah McGuire earned an opportunity that very few players get, and it could help his draft stock skyrocket.
Tracking the Preaux Career of EliJah McGuire
The son of the late Elijah McGuire, Sr. (who passed away when Elijah was just 12 years old) led the state of Louisiana in rushing as a senior with 2,603 yards while also throwing for 497 yards and five scores. Since signing on with the Ragin' Cajuns as a running back, he's racked up over 4,000 career yards. He was the Sun Belt Conference's Freshman of the Year in 2013 and first-team all-conference pick (863 yards, eight TD rushing; 22-384, 3 TD receiving), leading the FBS with an average of 8.4 yards per carry.
