If you know so much then why don't you share with us which school you coach at & name all the players you have at your school who can bench press more with free weight than my son.
I'll even go further than that. We'll raise money for charity. You pick your ringer from whatever high school it is where you coach. Just make sure it's a legitimate player at a school where you coach. And I'll take my son & put up 500 dollars for the school's athletic department to see whose kid wins the bench press competition. One catch, you come on here & fess up that you didn't know ____ when Josh wins if you're man enough to take the bet. Because if you're a coach & had to go back to your glory days of playing high school to think of someone you played with to reference someone who could outbench my son. Then you are just stirring ____ to stir it, or you can't name any other players that you've coached who can do it. Which means unlike me, once again you are full of ____. Or better yet. You're probably not a coach at all. Name the school & the players. I'll be waiting for your response.
You say your gonna leave it along and then write half a page of nothing...Bottom line regardless of what you think or I think we aren't the ones making offers...As a former athlete at UL I hope your son gets a shot here...But to come on a fan message board and try to get everyone to agree with you is pointless and probably hurts your son more than it helps...Nobody said that they had players who could out bench your son, just said that all high school football players should be able to bench there body weight...I'm done with this...

Lot's of conflicting information. One BWK post implies that his kid is getting screwed in the recruiting process. Others imply that he is getting plenty of looks and that it's UL that might lose out for not offering sooner. So which is it? Is he being overlooked or is he getting plenty of looks?
With those measurables, the kid will get a scholarship. It might not be to UL. I'm pretty sure both he and the school would survive such a thing. Even beyond the usual BWK hyperbole, the kid sounds like a solid prospect. I'm particularly impressed with his grades, given the athletic workload. That's a good sign for later life. I hope it works out for all involved.

The bottom line for the parent of any prospect, potential prospect, or even a want to be prospect: It doesn't matter how many coaching camps you go to or try to attend, or how much money you spend on film, or joining recruiting networks. If you don't go to one of the recruiting site sponsored combines early in life & get on their board, your son or daughter doesn't exist. And the longer your son or daughter doesn't exist, the harder it will be for them to have a realistic chance to compete for the scholarships that are out there from the FBS schools, especially the ones in your home town. That's the way life is today. Anybody who doesn't believe that isn't talking to the coaches who are chasing around recruits. The big time college mindset today is the best recruits are only at Nike, Under Armor, or some such camp. And the leftovers are at the other football camps trying to catch up. Even though I saw plenty of outstanding linemen & great coaching today in Thibodaux.

When I was in high school, my coaches would take a proactive approach and take me/us to certain camps for recognition. They would also send tapes out to all of their coaching connections throughout the country to help "promote" their student athletes. The coaches would let us know what schools the tapes were sent (Usually every school in LA.) and whether or not they actually spoke to the college coaches or not. If an athlete is THAT good and a coach does the proper leg work, he will get noticed and offered. No need to rely on the scouts/rivals/etc's of the world.
FYI...Your son is big, he tends to eat every piece of food we have out at our tailgate on Saturdays w/out taking a breath...HAHA
It'll work out man

Gotcha. Seems odd that that is the only way to get listed on Scout or Rivals. Is this the case Cajun T?
I'm assuming you have delivered a highlight DVD to the UL coaches office?
All past disagreements aside, I really hope it works out for your son BWK.

I appreciate your demeanor Charlie as much as we've sparred on here. And I hope what I'm saying may help you one day if you have a son facing this road. Yes Josh has a tape. Yes it's on You Tube, his NCSA website, and huddle which probably every coach in America as access to. Plus he has his tape going out to at least twenty different coaching staffs in the South. None of that matters unless he is litsed on Rivals & Scouts, because coaches today are extremely concerned about fan support today & going outside of the corporate sponsored sites to recruit the vast majority of their players. Ninety-nine & 1/2% +/- a tenth of recruits get on those sites that way. Just as Jesus said he was the way. That is almost the only way to recruiting salvation. I would bet a hundred dollar bill that the Kyle Xenno did everything that was asked of him, but didn't attend a corporate sponsored Rivals or Scout camp. Therefore he was labeled too small unjustly even though he was one of the best athletes in this state. Even though he won state in three track & field events & was probably all state in football & his team won the state title in completely domintating fashion. What else could he do? He was an absolute stud. Why didn't UL offer. He probably didn't have his picture up on Rival's Or Scout. Sad but fricking true.
Now he could have probably gotten a scholly to go to ASU. And he could have parlayed that into an offer to UL maybe. But he wasn't getting offered to UL straight up. And UL isn't unique in this. I'm being accused of turning the school against my son by those who don't know the system just as I didn't until it was too late. But what I'm trying to do now is save any chance there is that UL will offer my son before the free for all starts. Because we're learning how the recruiting game is played now.
The problem is you can't turn back time. And once May is over in a young man's junior year. It's pretty much too late unless he is an all american, or has a phenominal season. And even that doesn't help in some cases. The best thing to do is get your kid into a Nike Combine by the spring of his sophomore season. It's nearly every bit as important as taking the ACT exam. And you can always improve your ranking. But you can't get ranked if you don't exist.

Kyle...I don't know if you realize this but we have recruits that commit to UL...that do not have scout profiles. There are at least a handful each year that our staffs finds, offers, and gets them to commit...and they do not exist according to the major recruiting sites. CajunT usually has to add them himself. I find it hard to believe that our staff would ignore your son just because he isn't on a major recruiting site. Our staff is already at such a huge disadvantage when it comes to recruits on the major recruiting websites because of the disparaging status of the Sun Belt Conference...I think more than most programs...our coaches actually go out and recruit. Or maybe...and I don't know if you have covered this...they have in their minds better recruits at the same position or don't feel your sons position is that much of a need at the moment. Blaming the major recruiting sites would be just if this were LSU you were talking about. But this isn't LSU. Our staff cannot afford to ignore the rankings and go out searching for diamonds in the rough.

Kyle, the had a kid by the name of Bourque who played at Gueydan and then transferred to Crowley for his last two years and Crowley wasn't that good when he was there...Point is Josh will be found if he has what it takes to play at the next level...Take a breather bro and let the chips fall where they fall, your putting a lot of stress on yourself over something that you really cant control.
