Actually, you can coach accuracy. You can't coach size & speed!
Look at TB. When he first got here, his mechanics and footwork were not that good. He released the ball too low just about helmet high, or slightly over. His stance was too wide which negated the use of his legs and hips for the deep throws and when he needed to drill one in there. Lots of dual threat guys have poor mechanics and footwork in the pocket. But, when you are scrambling and a threat to run, you can often find wide open receivers, which doesn't require as much accuracy.
When I had a chance to talk to Jay Johnson after TB's arrival, I mentioned his release point and footwork. Jay told me they were already working on these things and his improvement was obvious after his redshirt season. After he broke his wrist at SoAl, his release point dropped again due to that injury. I was coached by Larry Zeno (twice All-American at UCLA) and he changed my release point as well. The higher you release the football, the more accurate you become because you are more inline with your sight-line. It takes quite a bit of hand strength to release the ball high, because you have to pull it down to spin it. But, the higher release increases velocity and enables you to throw the ball on a line, a longer distance and helps keep the batted passes down as well.
IMO, Jennings has very nice mechanics and good footwork. He elevates our QB position. I know JD will be upset if he doesn't start or loses playing time, but I say, let the best man win!

Rick, some of our football fans may never understand what a QB skill set can do in an offense that compliments his abilities. It wasn't apparent last year to a number of our fans that a QB cannot overcome fundamentally flawed coaching decisions. If our coaches simply run par intelligent plays... and utilize our personnel well... I see AJ thriving in our offense... against our competition. But if JD or anyone else can beat him out of the starting role... they've done something pretty special... and we fans should reap the benefits.

Desmo's passing stats were not reflective of the quality of passer he was. They were much better because the offense was built around the running ability of Desmo.
Jennings can have very similar results as Desmo or he will be mismanaged by the staff.
This is especially true with Eli on board.
The only way to go is option, option, and throw it when they commit to stopping the option.
No gimmicks necessary. No "cerebral" coaching necessary. Just lineup and kick their arse.
I sense the MIGHTY RAGIN CAJUN STEAMROLLING ZONE OPTION FREAKSHOW is about to resume.....

If we'll do this, we'll win 8 or 9 games this year.
Re: HUD has announced Jennings to UL
Effective simplicity is cerebral. If simple deception is effective, with the skill people we possess, then we are all the wiser for using it. The cerebral coaching I was looking for last year wasn't complex. It was quite the opposite. Were Brooks, Jalen and Elijah... the primary skill players placed in the backfield... utilized intelligently for the skills they possessed? It wasn't rocket science.
I'm curious what wrinkles our offense may have this year. If Hud allowed Munoz and MD to realign the playbook using the exceptional skills the core offensive skill talent possess, I think it could get crazy interesting.

Thank you!!!
Everyone keeps saying he wasn't in the right kind of offense at LSU. It doesn't matter what kind of offense he was in, he couldn't hit guys 4 yards in front of him. And UL hasn't had a passing offense worth a darn in the last couple of years. Give him slants, screens, or whatever else you want but he can't hit receivers.

Hey wait a minute, that seems eerily similar to our offense.

I know you say this in jest, but this might be the most incorrect statement on RP of all time. Do you not remember the best TE we have ever had......Ladarius Green. he had 51 receptions in 2011, 44 in 2010, 32 in 2009 and 22 in 2008, that was a total of 149 catches in 4 seasons. In 2012 Ian Thompson had 16 Catches, that same year Jacob Maxwell had 19 catches. Combined these guys had 35 catches. Don't forget about Larry Pettis who had 19 receptions in 2014. Last year was the first year in a long time we did not utilize the TE.

I meant to remind you how you've forgotten Pee Wee with your comment that we hadn't thrown to a TE since 1992. I'm sure if Munoz and Dez feel confident with a sure handed TE, we'll see them involved in the passing game. I'm not that upset if they aren't, as long as our WR group is running routes that actually challenge coverage and give our QB good targets.

I'm betting you eat these words once the season rolls around. :)

Last season, Haack did not have the protection nor the offense that fit his skill set. And, IMHO, Jalen lacked the right amount of comfort that slows the game down to where he could relax and make good decisions and execute. His mechanics throwing the ball always looked a bit rushed/anxious in the games. He would probably do a better job this season with the experience he gained last season, which is why I'm so happy we were able to pick up AJ. I was worried that if we started poorly and QB play was a factor in the poor start, Jalen would end up moving back to QB and the whole merry go-round starts again.

You need to start using emoticons. I tend to run my entire day by what you post on RP. If you don't let me know when you're being facetious, I could end up on the wrong side of right all day long. (place emoticon here that has bulging eyes and look of desperate confusion)

Agree wholeheartedly on this point! But, its a common problem in most programs. TE's usually end up being the 3rd or 4th read in most passing plays unless they have a difference maker. PEE WEE was a hybrid TE and a difference maker. I hope we mix it up more this year.
