The UL Ragin' Cajun softball program's present may not be as rosy as usual with an 0-2 showing in the Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament.
The future, though, looks awfully bright if you look at the roster for today's 4 p.m. LHSCA All-Star Softball Doubleheader at the LSU softball complex in Baton Rouge.
Members from state championship teams in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A all signed with UL and will be in action on the same field today.
That group includes East outfielder Katie Smith from 5A Ruston, West outfielder Katey Stanford from 4A St. Thomas More, West pitcher Donna Bourgeois of 3A Teurlings Catholic and East pitcher Ashley Brignac of 2A John Curtis will be squaring off today.

Smith stole over 100 bases in her career in Ruston and was the defensive MVP of her district.
Stanford hit .385 for the champion Lady Cougars with a triple, a homer, 12 RBIs and 25 stolen bases as the lead-off hitter and superb defensive player.
Bourgeois did it all for the Lady Rebels. As a pitcher, she threw a no-hitter in the state title game to wrap up a season of 24-3 with a 0.59 ERA, striking out 297 and yielding just 56 hits in 177 innings. Offensively, Bourgeois was outstanding as well, hitting .396 with eight doubles, seven homers and 33 RBIs.
No-hitters and perfect games became almost expected for Brignac this season. Going into the state tournament this season, she had struck out 369 of 467 batters on the season. She finished with 422 strikeouts and two more no-hitters in the three state tournament games.
