Parkview's Lennox commits to Louisiana-La.

The talent pipeline from Parkview Baptist to the University of Louisiana at La. continues to flourish.
A year after two former Parkview Baptist players signed with UL another of the program's standout players is on the way.
Senior quarterback Jacob Lennox, who finished 24-3 as a starter, said in part because of the response he received from Brenton Burkhalter and Bobby Fails -- former Parkview teammates who redshirted at UL in 2004 -- he's decided to rejoin his friends and commit to the Ragin' Cajuns.
"They told me they loved it over there and it was great,'' Lennox said of Burkhalter and Fails. "They think the program's up and coming and is going to be good for years to come.''
The addition of Lennox, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder gives UL its fifth commitment of the recruiting period. Lennox said he will take his official visit this weekend and take part in the Cajuns first big recruiting weekend.

"This will probably be the only school I'll visit,'' Lennox said. "This is where I wanted to be all along.''
Lennox, an academic qualifier, selected UL over scholarship offers from McNeese State, Northwestern State and Nicholls State. He also received interest from Southern Mississippi and Louisiana Tech, two schools where he participated in summer camps.
"I told (UL head) coach (Rickey) Bustle that he's such a great athlete," Parkview coach Kenny Guillot said. "He can play wide receiver, defensive back, quarterback, safety or rover. He's just a kid that enjoys the game of football. He wanted to commit as soon as they offered.''
Lennox was on course for a career on defense at Parkview until an injury to quarterback William Chambers after the first series in the season opener against Woodlawn last year.
Lennox stepped in and promptly directed the Eagles to a 13-1 record and appearance in the Class 3A state semifinals. He was selected the District 8-3A offensive most valuable player, first team All-Metro and honorable mention All-State after passing for 1,246 yards 15 touchdowns and rushing for another 816 yards and 13 scores.
Parkview (11-2) concluded its season last Friday with a 55-34 loss to St. James in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
Lennox combined for 3,243 total yards and 65 touchdowns during his career, rushing for 1,714 yards and passing for an additional 1,529.
"They told me that I would play safety,'' Lennox said his collegiate position. "But that could change. I would miss offense, but you never know. I'm for the team and their job is to put me somewhere and I'll play it.''

Parkview QB commits to UL

LOUISIANA La. — Louisiana football coach Rickey Bustle has gone back to familiar turf to secure the Ragin’ Cajuns’ fourth commitment of this year’s recruiting season.
Parkview Baptist quarterback/defensive back Jacob Lennox gave Bustle a verbal commitment Monday, joining former Parkview teammates Bobby Fails and Brenton Burkhalter on the Cajun roster. Burkhalter, a linebacker, and Fails, an offensive lineman, signed with the Cajuns last February.
Lennox was the Baton Rouge squad’s starting quarterback for the last two seasons and led Parkview to 13-1 and 11-2 records, including a Class 3A semifinal berth last season and a quarterfinal appearance this year.
But the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder will likely wind up at free safety for the Cajuns.
“He likes to play the game, and he doesn’t care where he plays,” said Parkview coach Kenny Guillot. “If you put him at free safety, he’ll love it, put him on the kickoff team, he doesn’t care. He just likes to play.”
Lennox rushed ran for 960 yards and threw for 1,222 more as a senior while completing 55 percent of his throws and accounting for 37 touchdowns in the Eagles’ double-slot, multiple-option offense.
He ran for 816 yards, a 5.8 average and 13 scores and threw for 1,246 yards and 15 touchdowns with only three interceptions in his junior year, when he earned 3A All-State honors and Baton Rouge All-Metro honors along with being named Offensive MVP in District 8-3A.

“He was going to be a starting defensive back as a junior,” said Parkview defensive coordinator Jay Mayet.
“But our quarterback (William Chambers) got hurt the first series of the season and Jacob moved over there. When the other kid came back we were six weeks into the season and Jacob was playing well, so instead of changing things up we left him there.”
The Eagles won 13 straight games and reached the semifinals in his junior season before losing to Notre Dame. He then repeated as league MVP this year in guiding Parkview to last weekend’s quarterfinals, where the Eagles lost to St. James. Parkview’s only regular-season loss was to 4A top seed St. Thomas More.
“He’s just a great athlete,” Mayet said. He was the starting shortstop on a state champion baseball team as a sophomore and committed only one error all year.”
“He’s one of the best athletes to come through here in the six years I’ve been here,” said Guillot. “He can play offense, defense. He runs well enough to play corner, but he’ll also make a great safety.
“He just doesn’t get flustered, he’s a very even-keel guy and a fun-loving kid. He didn’t get much chance to play defense for us, but he’ll do a great job there.”
Lennox said that conversations with Burkhalter and Fails, both redshirts this year, convinced him to commit.
“They said it was great, and that the program’s really up and coming,” he said. “They think it’s going to be good for years to come.”
Already qualified academically, Lennox had offers from several state schools. He plans to take his official visit Friday when Bustle and his staff host their first full group of prep prospects.
