Roberson (6-1, 240, 4.6 40-yard dash) visited the Ragin’ Cajuns for the squad’s first home game against Northwestern State, and committed to the Cajuns after being recruited by UCLA, TCU, Oklahoma State, SMU and Baylor.
“I felt very comfortable there, and they made me feel like I was at home,” said Roberson. “They showed me a lot of love when I was down there ... they accepted me right from the start. And it’s not far from home.”
It’s also not far from the Cajuns’ other verbal commitment, with Galena Park teammate and free safety Desmond Jackson committing to UL in early September.
“We both got offered at the same time,” Roberson said, “and we thought it would be real cool to go to school together. We both enjoyed it there a lot.”
The Galena Park squad of coach Mike Coker compiled a 7-3 mark last year, its best in 25 seasons, and came up one win short of qualifying for the state playoffs out of District 19-4A. They’re doing even better this fall, taking a 5-0 record into the district opener against C.E. King High Friday.
Roberson has four touchdowns in those games, two by rushing and two on receptions, and is part of a rushing attack that is averaging 345.8 yards per game. Galena Park has outscored its first five opponents 222-49.

A first-team All-District 19-4A tight end as a junior, Roberson played tight end most of his junior year and also saw some action at defensive end.
“Chancellor is a freak, athletically,” said Coker. “We moved him from tight end to defense last year, and he can be a dominant player there.”
“I’ll go wherever I can help the team,” Roberson said, “but right now I’m more offense-minded.”
Roberson said that his decision was based in part on the school’s secondary education program, and on the Cajuns’ style of offense.
“I wanted to go somewhere where they run the ‘I’ some,” he said, “and when I saw them they utilized the fullback a lot. The fullback had a big game when I was there, including catching the ball. I like to do it all, running and catching.
“I can’t wait to get there. I think it’s making me play better right now.”
