Recruiting Discussion
Complete list of 2005 verbal commitmentsLOUISIANA La. — Ragin Cajun football coach Rickey Bustle doubled his number of verbal commitments for the 2005 freshman signing class this week, getting a commitment from fullback Chancellor Roberson of Galena Park High in Houston.
Roberson (6-1, 240, 4.6 40-yard dash) visited the Ragin’ Cajuns for the squad’s first home game against Northwestern State, and committed to the Cajuns after being recruited by UCLA, TCU, Oklahoma State, SMU and Baylor.
“I felt very comfortable there, and they made me feel like I was at home,” said Roberson. “They showed me a lot of love when I was down there ... they accepted me right from the start. And it’s not far from home.”
It’s also not far from the Cajuns’ other verbal commitment, with Galena Park teammate and free safety Desmond Jackson committing to UL in early September.
“We both got offered at the same time,” Roberson said, “and we thought it would be real cool to go to school together. We both enjoyed it there a lot.”
The Galena Park squad of coach Mike Coker compiled a 7-3 mark last year, its best in 25 seasons, and came up one win short of qualifying for the state playoffs out of District 19-4A. They’re doing even better this fall, taking a 5-0 record into the district opener against C.E. King High Friday.
Roberson has four touchdowns in those games, two by rushing and two on receptions, and is part of a rushing attack that is averaging 345.8 yards per game. Galena Park has outscored its first five opponents 222-49.
