Cajuns Could Face Bowl Confusion

The Ragin' Cajuns can become bowl eligible with a win Wednesday vs. Middle Tennessee State. If they get the victory, several projections have UL going to the Independence Bowl vs. Louisiana Tech.
Even though they have a secondary tie-in with the Sun Belt, I-Bowl officials say they could look elsewhere.
I-Bowl spokesperson Patrick Meehan says the game is only obligated to take a seven-win Sun Belt team if one's available. They can pass on a six-win team, which UL would be if they beat MTSU.

If there are 7-5 teams available from any conference, they must be selected first. But Sun Belt associate commissioner John McElwain tells FOX News Lafayette that the league had been operating under the assumption that 6-6 SBC teams would be picked ahead of 6-6 teams from other leagues.
So, the NCAA is reviewing the contract and could have a ruling on the issue as early as Tuesday night.
Of course, all of this means nothing to the Cajuns unless they get a victory on senior night at the Swamp. Louisiana and Middle Tennessee get started at six o’clock Wednesday.

Like i always said, Until we Quit playing the "Rent -A-Loss" Games, we will always put ourselves into this situation. with Nebraska & LSU on the schedule for next year, we will see the same thing happen. Let's find the 1.2 Million ,
and build a winning tradition, Period !

Troy played these games too, and they're going to be 8-4.

Yeah, but playing those games to finance the Athletic dept has also come at a cost. Fortunately, somebody implemented a rule that limited the number of rent-a-slaughters a team could play each season. One year Troy played more SEC away games than most of the SEC teams.

This post made me giggle. Moreover the last sentence.

Please read carefully.
NOBODY in the SBC plays fewer "rent-a-loss" games than we do.
The fact that we are not building a winning tradition has absolutely nothing to do with the non-conference schedule. Nothing.

There must be something your eyes affecting your vision. Maybe, cataracts or glaucoma so have them checked out. My old eyes tell me we are building a winning tradition and I saw plenty of evidence of it this season - on a trip I made up to WarHoaxstertown all the way through last night's game against Middle.
Despite the avalanche of injuries we suffered, the 2008 season turned out to be sweet. And, best of all, it may not be done yet.
I'm already anticipating a strong 2009 signing class on top of last year's and plenty more good news on upgrades in the program and facilities. If I do not see fellow Cajun football fans before then, I will see you at the Feb 3rd Signing Bash.

You can call me names if you want to make it personal, but Today, we are seeing the results of a poor plan. You can sugar coat it anyway you want, but we are staying home because we scheduled above our heads. Just take a look at how the better programs maintain their bowl eligibility, they schedule teams early that they have a good chance of winning before they get into their competitive conferences. If you support this, you are accepting
losing instead of promoting Winning.

I know this is going to sound rather obvious to most but the the reason we play "money games" is for the money. As long as we must rely upon the $1.4 miilion or so these games bring in fund our athletic budget, we will continue to play them. This point has been noted on this forum many, many times.
It's not a matter of supporting it or not supporting it, it's reality.

I guess we've scheduled above our heads now for 38 years? You are oversimplifying our problem. You cannot schedule yourself out of all of your issues. A better schedule will develope as our administration orchestrates a total package for football. We cannot improve the schedule, the coaches, the players, the faciliities, the under-staff, the anything... until the president blasts out of his cave with a new UL football mission. We cannot keep operating as a cellar-dwellar and expect the results to change.
