BATON ROUGE - A proposal to build more student apartments on the UL campus is one step away from receiving final approval.
The State Bond Commission on Thursday granted preliminary approval to the proposal to construct a 162-bed complex. The developers of the project will come back to the commission at a future date for final approval of the project, which could cost up to $12.5 million.
Julie Dronet of the university's media relations office said it will be an addition the Legacy Park development.

The existing Legacy Park apartments are full, and there's a long waiting list to get in, she said. The new complex will be near Girard Park.
Ragin' Cajun Facilities Inc., a nonprofit corporation created for the original development, will lease the land from the university and construct the new apartments.
The apartments will be owned and maintained by the corporation until the bonds are paid off using the rental payments, Bond Commission documents say. When the bonds are paid off, the complex reverts to university ownership.
Legacy Park is built on land formerly occupied by dormitories that were demolished.
