Coached by 1970 Gulf States Conference Coach of the Year, Bob Banner, Louisiana finished with the schools best record since 1952. The Cajuns were in contention for the GSC title until the final game of the season. During the season Louisiana set a GSC record for consecutive wins with 12 in a row. Overall Louisiana finished with a 15-9 conference record and sterling 26-15 record overall.
