And most of the people on here will want to renew his contract.

I would love to be proven wrong, because Marlin is a genuinely good guy who brings in character kids who play hard and represent us with class. But we have a large sample size already of what Marlin is capable of doing.

Marlin is the Ricky Bustle of UL basketball.
I can see the comparison to Coach Bustle. However, Coach Bustle only had one winning season in 9. Basketball has had four straight winning years. I can see the argument that the resources football had then made it more difficult to win in that sport.

I do like the new rule as it gives good mid majors another chance to play with the middle of the pack Big 6 schools (P5 + Big East is Big 6).
Lost to Tech and to UAB in back to back years 02 and 03

It looks like Fletcher was here 11 season and won 20 games or more 4 times.

This leans me to believe that we are a step better with Marlin.. but that next step will be a BIG one to take.

Two NBA all stars and he couldn't even win a NCAA tournament game or even get to the NIT.

To his credit, no one remembers who you play, most just remember he won 20 games most years....so what if it was against the University of Phoenix and I.T.T Tech.
Your point is still valid, but he has NOT had 2 Nba all stars. Far from it...

I know you're just answering questions. Just putting in my two cents
Are you sure it was APR standards and not USF standard that squeezed Jesse. Additionally he was competing in a much better league for basketball.

Marty has much better big wins than Marlin. He also played tougher schedules. Those are objective facts.

The vacated games weren't the players fault, or Jesse's but an incompetent employee who later got stAte into trouble.

Orien Greene played for Jessie after transferring from Florida. He went on to play a few seasons in the NBA. I believe he started with Boston. We did have to vacate games during his time due to the determination he played while ineligible. After he transferred from Florida, he had poor grades. He supposedly gained eligibility through correspondence courses. Turns out those courses were not academically viable or approved by NCAA. Perhaps the compliance officer should have done a better job in that determination. I do wonder if there was subtle pressure put on her back then to make the decision the basketball staff wanted. Orien got into trouble recently for some Cecil Collins type activity.

I say let Dr. Maggard get his feet grounded, survey the field, then start makes some changes to advance all of the athletic programs at UL. Hopefully, sooner than later. For the love of God, please make contracts to where UL does not get the shaft!

Ideally you want 3 things out of a great coach.

    Spot talent: Check

    Develop talent: Check

    Bring it all together: Waiting

If you have 2-out-of-3, you deserve extra time. Lots of it.

I am not sure the SBC was ever ranked as high as 13 in Jessie's years. We are 13 of over 30 leagues now. Perhaps it was. APR was put in right after Jessie left here. The upsets Marty pulled off were major coups and we have not come close to doing that since. Unfortunately, he could not beat UNO often enough. That and the departure of Butch Pierre sealed his fate. Butch was key to much of his success.
