Wasn't bringing politics in, just pointing out the parallel of one not voting but protesting the election and one who apparently has washed his hands of the program but still _____es about it.
I see college sports differently from a product. I have zero loyalty to a brand, company or product. UL is my alma mater, my community and something that is part of my family. I choose to support because of that. Not because of the "product" on the field. If that were not the case I would be a UK fan one year, maybe a Duke fan the next. They have the best "product".
My loyalty is to the program because I believe that my support makes the program better.
Not renewing is the ultimate protest, it shows the powers that be you are not going to pay for crap.
Don't even try to bring this to a political equivalent. Frankly I don't even have a problem with those guys unless they were in a battleground area. Anybody from California not voting changed not a single thing. Absolutely comfortable with non voters protesting as long as they are not violent or abridge the rights of others to move about. You should be too.
You have to stand for something. You can't just open your wallet and throw money down a black hole w/out getting something back in return. Ticket prices go up, concessions go up, etc. Yet our level of play stay stagnant or goes down. We are getting left behind in everything except the diamond sports and the reason for that is coaching.
So back to what I said. I will still go, because I love to watch sports and I love the Cajuns, but I will not just renew my tickets (along with my extras I get for customers every year) and continue to watch a pathetic product. They will get my dollars on the days that I decide to attend. Not gonna buy 8 books and watch them collect dust....customers don't even want them anymore.
5hitty product, yet our AD/President seem to think all is good. BIG PROBLEM
I think Big Fish bought a game day program last year and did some research. He saw what Jesse Evans was able to do with D1 transfers and he's gonna save his butt for at least one more year. I miss those days.
I think our Tennis team could be us in basketball....maybe Cajunsmike can confirm?
As much heat as Hud has taken and deservedly so, the problem with Marlin is that he really has not progressed the program AT ALL in his tenure here. Hud made an immediate impact and progressed the program upon his arrival. Marlin has just kind of tread water here and this is the problem most have with him. I don't necessarily have a problem with his coaching style and X and O knowledge but he hasn't been able to recruit to this program and bring any of the state's top talent here. Hell, even WKU just got one of Louisiana's top players and a top 100 player overall and I doubt we were even in the mix.
I don't necessarily look at our collegiate sports as an "investment" or a "product" but it does make it hard to continue buying season tickets and RCAF donations when things are not progressing, especially when costs for said items is going up. This is my problem with the football tickets and tailgating this year. What this program needs is a basketball version of Hud to generate interest. I will go to games this year but I just chose not to renew my season tickets. I guess you could say I was protesting however the protest is only effective if the person or cause you are protesting is aware of the protest. I think if people really want to protest, call or message the AD and acknowledge why you are not purchasing your tickets or making your RCAF payment rather than hoping they get the message because if SF thinks like many here feel he does, he may not be getting that message.
Court time. The biggest thing a young college player could get from this is just playing in a game situation. This helps them get some confidence and develop some chemistry especially with various lineups. Sometimes its better to slide into a season slower and get guys feeling more comfortable and I think something like last night can do nothing but help their confidence, especially after they lost to a very mediocre Montana State team.
Nothing but positives from last night.
