Triple double threat every night although not a prolific scorer but solid player even though Simmons has much more athleticism than Turner.

I hate saying it but I saw that game yesterday and Long looked pedestrian at best, even when being guarded by the big white guy who blocked his shot a couple of times. Long was somewhat ineffective on the blocks and I think he is definitely a stretch 4 but I'm not sure he will find a place on an NBA team for a while. He may need some time overseas first.
    To each his own man..
10 points in 14 minutes off the bench in his first summer league game is far from ineffective. He will only get better. Guys at the NBA level will teach him a more aggressive style which will benefit all areas, I think.

Simmons is a pampered "me" guy that will ruin locker rooms. Also scared of the big moment.

    Did you see the game?

So again, you said that Long is better than Simmons. I presume you project this to the NBA level. I hope Shawn gets on with an NBA team and sticks, however, you are saying that his career will be more impressive than Simmons?

Depends on your definition of "better". Simmons is more talented. Shawn is more reliable, hard working and driven. This reminds me of Robe's skittles analogy. Gimme the poor, hungry kid every time.

Simmons will accomplish nothing of significance in his career.

A couple minutes yes... He appeared nervous more than anything but seriously... 10 points 5 boards and an assist in 14 minutes... I bet the sixers will take that "pedestrian" stat line every night from their UDFA. I'm not gonna argue with you but I think the sixers scouts might have the edge on you...and he may end up overseas but geez man... It was his first game....at least he was smart enough to drink water and not get cramps.

It's not what I said, it's what you said which is why I'm asking.

You said "Long >>> Simmons." If you are talking about college, yes, I feel that Simmons really had a lot of room to grow and was not ready for what was expected of him. If you are talking about the NBA, I do believe he will be a solid player. Whether he is able to live up to the hype and number 1 selection remains to be seen but he has the skill set to do so. I questioned if Kevin Durant had the intangibles to be an all NBA guy but I was proven wrong and that is often the mistake people make with guys who enter at such an early age.

My whole point was that I do think he has more upside than Shawn unfortunately and will ultimately have a better pro career. I watched Shawn play yesterday, and like CC said it was only one game, but I saw a guy who doesn't appear to have any more talent than any of the guys he's playing against and doesn't have the elite athleticism that the NBA looks for. I'm not saying he can't break through but he will have to find his niche with someone and I hope it happens.

He had some points but he did nothing that every other guy at his position was doing and he had trouble on the defensive end. I understand its one game and you are probably right, a lot of his performance were probably nerves as i don't think he played the game prior as I watched looking for him. He seemed to be the least athletic of all their bigs that played and was fairly ineffective in the post against a guy I thought he'd manhandle.

He did not play the first game.. But that's what these games are for... To find where you are best suited. These guys have been on a team together for all of less than 2 weeks? I just think it's a little unfair to decide a guys career in 14 minutes... Especially when he actually produced.

I think the more important thing is that we (Cajun fans) care about our players (student-athletes) after they leave, i.e. we care about them as a person too, I don't see that from the P-5 as much and definitely not from the flagship. I wager more posts and takes on our board about Long than their boards about if they had an alum as an UDFA. wouldn't it be nice if recruits saw that, and considered these types of intangibles in their decision making process. (then all the money, facilities, other issues wouldn't be as important)

I'm with you there. There aren't enough blue pills to get rid of that softness.
