UL's football team may have eliminated itself from the Sun Belt Conference football race with Saturday's 52-21 loss at Arkansas State. But this weekend's Homecoming foe is in the middle of that chase.
Florida Atlantic (3-3, 2-0) already has wins over Middle Tennessee and at North Texas along with an out-of-conference home win over Minnesota.
"If I'd had two votes at the start of the year, I would have voted for them and Troy," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle of his team's 4 p.m. Saturday opponent.
"They were a year ago where we are now, with a bunch of young players. Now they're growing up."
FAU had an open date last weekend after playing now-second-ranked South Florida within 35-23 one week ago. One week earlier, the Owls lost at another top-10 team in losing at Kentucky 45-17.
