Perhaps we are paying for what he will do because I just don't see how what he has done and is doing warrants that raise...

It goes back forever, way back when I was young, blah, blah, blah.

Marlin has to win with the players he recruits. So regardless of whose feet you want to lay the blame on, he is responsible for coaches, and players he hired and signed. That is HIS job to make good decisions on coaches and players, not just x & o, not just motivation and game day decisions. Many games are won before the tip off, before the first day of fall practice.

It really is kind of stupid to blame the players who are not here, after all according to so many they were not good citizens anyway.
    I agree 100%

I still hope Marlin can recruit players like Kevin Figaro. I think they are out there.

I remember Marlins first year, he made a comment at his luncheon about how the kids across the league in the Sun-Belt are distinctively bigger and more athletic than what he saw in the Southland. If anyone saw the Middle Tennessee game, Holy Cow we look like a JV team compared them.

A few years ago, I looked at a team that had Travis Bureau, La'Ryan Gary, Tyren Johnson, Millsaps, Batiste and thinking DAM, these guys are so small compared to the Dwayne Mitchell, Orien Greene, Tiras Wade, Chris Cameron etc ...era.

Now, I look at Wronkowski, Elfrid, Shepperd, (insert pretty much any name here), and they are even smaller than Lee's long and lean bunch. Is it just me? I know the older you get, the high schoolers and college age kids look younger and smaller... but dam, Brad Boyd looks like a roided-up juice monkey compared to this bunch.

    Just an observation.

Jessie Evans is now an assistant at Southeast Missouri State under ex-Arkansas State coach Dickey Nutt.

Well, as far as I know the only thing he did wrong was want to go to San Francisco. Lets give him a call.

I think he'd have difficulties in today's NCAA, especially at a school like UL (where he may not be able to get top-tier high school athletes), because of his reliance on JUCO/transfer players and the fact that under his watch, the classroom wasn't always a top priority for players. The APR would be a nightmare. Say what you will about Marlin (and even Robert Lee), but their kids took care of business in the classroom. Even those who left had grades in order before leaving.

Coach Broadhead built his team from the ground up and started the season with young inexperienced players. This team has been called an, acadiana allstar team, on this board. They beat Tulane today. That shows progress. Oh but wait they're young.

OK, how bout' Fletcher. I know he doesn't play defense but at least: (a) he recruits people that can shoot, not are suppose to be shooters but can not and, (b) are fun to watch and somewhat successful. Here is my take based on 3 years (1) Marlin is not a good recruiter of players or coaches, (2) he wants to play defense but can not get his players to buy-in - they either can't or don't want too (3) says things I don't understand like; the Sunbelt players are much bigger than those in the Southland - really what did he expect. It shows a lack of perspective (4) continues to recruit undersized players. The only UL players on this team are Payton and Long (5) the only coach on our team that has brought a high quality player is Johnson - maybe he should be the one getting a raise and (6) I am getting tired of his long-winded, slow-talking manner that results in nothing but excuses. (Rant-Off)!

NO, NO, NO!! We don't want "play the gray areas" Jessie Evans back.. We do not want creepy Fletcher and wife back either. I don't have the answer.. But not those guys, please!!

Any chance we can bring Bobby Paschal out of retirement??
