Thread: Louisiana softball searching for consistency as Sun Belt play continues

  1. UL Softball Louisiana softball searching for consistency as Sun Belt play continues

Louisiana softball didn’t have the start it hoped for in Sun Belt Conference play, suffering its first series loss of the season.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (17-12, 1-2) traveled to Southern Mississippi and were outscored 16-11 in the series, losing one of the three games in run-rule fashion.

Why are we searching for consistency still half way through the season?

Yesterday Coach Habetz mentioned Gabbie Stutes and Erin Ardion as leaders. That is great but those girl are more like girly-girls. We need an Alpha Female _____ to get players on board with the standards. I don't know if they have that Alpha on the team? That's the kind of leadership that I am looking for. The vocal kind. Coach Habetz is too soft on these players and they have too much team building stuff going on. Coach them hard and push them!

C'mon man. You're free to have opinions on what you think they should do better on the field. You know absolutely nothing about coaching a D1 softball team, especially in this era, or the dynamic within their team, and “girly-girls” is an unfair comment.

You have made it very clear of the job you think Habetz is doing. But leadership comes in many forms, and nobody outside of that locker room has any clue what makes this team tick.

Let me tell you something. When the Cajuns are losing big and the coach makes a visit to the pitching circle and the team is laughing that's not leadership. Tell me different! Girly-girl is the opposite of Alpha Female in case you didn't know. Nothing wrong with that like I said in the original post. It's my opinion we need some vocal leadership to hold everyone accountable. I don't see or hear that happening from anyone including the coaches.

The title of the article is,
"searching for consistency." I think a big part of being inconsistent is because the team has no identity. In any particular game, is the team going to try to win with power at the plate, or, are they going to try to win with small ball? Are they going to have a pitcher who has control, or, a pitcher who walks a number of batters? Are they going to play error free, or, are they going to drop fly balls in the outfield?

With the upcoming series with Texas state, can anyone in this forum predict, with certainty, how any of those games are going to end up?

I can't. I don't know if the Cajuns are going to run rule Texas State three times, if Texas state is going to run rule the Cajuns three times, or, if all of the games will be one run games.

If the Cajuns were more consistent, or, had a true identity, it would be much easier to predict

Totally incorrect about Gabbie and Erin. Two of the hardest workers on the team. I’ve been around the team since 2002 and those two work as hard as anyone. Girly-Girls that’s funny. Lead by example. If you are willing to go to work, follow those two. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact!!!

Nobody has ever questioned their work ethic or leadership. In my opinion the team needs someone to step up as a vocal leader. In my opinion that hasn't happened from anyone. A vocal leader wouldn't allow laughing in the pitching circle when the team is getting hammered. A vocal leader would have shut that down right away. Everyone keeps talking about standards, but I didn't see that kind of stuff with any of the previous coaching staffs.

I must come from a different era, because I don't think any softball player can be called a girly-girl.

Even less so for those who make it to the collegiate level.
