If we don't improve our QB room with a transfer, we are looking at .500 again for a while. Sorry if it's a bit blunt, but none of our QB's are impressive. Lunch is mediocre, the others are below at this point. I know many on here like to be player supportive, and I understand because you may have personal reasons for that, but I'm UL supporter, I want the best people doing their best. If we can improve the team, then that's what we need to do, we can't have blind loyalty that doesn't produce results. The teams we beat this year are some of the worst in FBS. Last year wasn't a whole lot better, we played a weak schedule. We will see in the bowl game how our QB's perform.
I wouldn't mind a QB in the portal, but I also expect improvement from Lunch going into next season. He should be going into the offseason as a starter and thereby get more reps than last offseason.
Also, all QB play this year is directly impacted by the OL problems. If we cannot figure out a way to stay healthy and improve in the OL, your .500 prediction is optimistic for next season.
Can you picture Montana with the Saints OL of that era. He would have looked like Archie. Running for his life. Great QBs had time to be great. Our OL was in surgery this year.
Lunch did not have good practices in August. Note he missed most of spring due to injury from 24. August is a lot of 7 on 7 and QB’s are not hit in practice often. He did well in scrimmages which is more game like and coaches did notice that. Now, once he became a starter his passing accuracy and decision making improved significantly. A former coach confirmed this to me. Lunch does have a deal with Lunchables and that may be enough to keep him here. Brent Gordon is the player I think is most likely to get significant offers from other schools. He was a starter as a pure freshman at one of toughest positions on field. That will attract attention.
