The full name is “LSU Health Sciences (LSUHSC) School of Allied Health.”
Decades ago when UMC was built, people got excited thinking USL was getting a medical school. Quickly LSU put up signage. Message sent.
Now today, as much as many (myself included) hope to see a UL med school, it’s not in any way, shape or forum. No diploma for a medical doctor will have “University of Louisiana at Lafayette” is happening.
LSU keeps dumping more and more resources into LSUE, especially nursing. Pay attention people, LSUE doesn’t collaborate just to be benevolent to UL. They have an end game.
Remember when budgets get cut in rough times, duplication of programs at universities are in the crosshairs.
But lswho will never be allies with anyone
I believe our Allied Health will continue to focus on Nursing along with NP and PT. Especially as they focus on the PhD level in nursing. Just my take on it. I’m not aware of any big push for an MD program in our Allied Health program. But I’m not privy to any of that.
Correct. The DNP doesn’t count toward our PhD program. Hence goal of a PhD program in Nursing. Nursing at UL is outstanding. Our grads are amazing to watch. Proud to get to see them perform at Lourdes once a week. Also love when our students come in for clinical in their red scrubs. They look great.

Yes, the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSU Health) in New Orleans and Shreveport both oversee and offer academic programs in allied health professions. LSU Health New Orleans has a School of Allied Health Professions, and LSU Health Shreveport also has a School of Allied Health Professions. These schools offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in different allied health fields.
Officially UL's "Allied Health" program is the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the only collaboration between us and LSU is in our Pre-Dental hygiene program. We coordinate with LSU's school of dentistry and ULM for our students to get bachelor's degrees from those schools.
No we will never see a University of Louisiana at Lafayette Medical School, at least not in our, our children's, grand children's, great grandchildren's, or great great grandchildren's life time
Thank you.
I understand it, but at the same time excitement over basically being in a conduit for degrees awarded from other instate universities and building supporting infrastructure isn’t a super feel good moment, IMO.
Loyalty never develops. Urban dictionary has a word describing this but won’t do there.
