Thread: Burnt Roux: Marcus Wiltz

All I was trying to say was I feel as though we need to get to the point in recruiting that any local kid is coming to us if offered regardless of the depth chart. We were willing to give him a scholarship we should get him ahead of McNeese or ULM. We may not ever "take" one from LSU but McNeese should not be able to take a local kid we have our sights on. I feel as though that will come as part of the growth process we are all hoping for. If all goes to plan in five years that same situation will result in the local kid commiting to the Cajuns.

This comes from winning---winning at home, winning conference and advancing to bowl games. If a local kid growing up has nothing but fond memories of Cajun football he will be much more inclined to commit here. I only wonder if the McNeese loss hurt us here...

Look, how committed do you think we were on this young man? We have a couple of backs who on paper are far superior to him. And oh by the way he his going to McNeese, not UH, not Rice, not Tulane, not Southern Mississippi, not Tulsa, not TCU. In other words he is an average low level 1A back going where he thinks he can play day one.

That does not change your general theme. We need to win a lot more to get the better players, local, statewide, and regional wide.

How quick we are to forget. Nelson Stokely gave up after Authement kept taking his guarantees away, then he hires a moron Baldwin.

Bustle had to do several things. First he was not rebuilding. Rebuilding implies you were good, and some of your good players are young. He, in reality had a more monumental task than someone starting a totally new program. He did not have the number of scholarship players a 1AA program had 65 when he took over. He had under 50 players.

IMO 6 years was enough time, but he will get at least 8. He has in his last 4 seasons had one winning season, two break even, and one losing season. 2009 should pretty much be his opportunity to put up or shut up.

I complain about losing a kid 20 miles down the road.....Wonder if this would have happened had we defeated Ryan St. last season? We are having trouble recruiting our own back yard against the likes of McNeese and ULM---and we want to compete on the National Level? It should be a slam dunk that if we wnat a local kid he is ours and we obviuosly aren't there yet.

It is one thing to lose a local kid to Texas, or LSU or to see a kid we don't really recruit go to McNeese. But to lose a kid to McNeese that we want? I am hopeful that the Cajuns really didn't want this kid because we have "Bigger fish" in our sights _
Hey you just never know about kids. They are 17 to 18 and change their minds almost hourly it seems. For one thing McNeese wins for the post part and they go to the post season most of the time of course this year they didn't. Now recently they haven't done too well losing in the first round of the playoffs but they have been to the national championship game twice. But at least playing in the first round is close to a bowl game situation. Plus sometimes kids just want to go away to school. Granted McNeese is only an hour down the road but they are away from mom and dad and on their own. Plus it is still close enough for their parents to go see them play. Same goes for ULM its a place to go to get away from home. Look McNeese fans complain when they lose a local kid to you guys or to another SLC team. I think when it comes down to the local school vs the away school and all other factors are equal between them I think 60 to 70% of the time the kid is going to the out of town school.

Grades were no problem with this kid, better than average. If you would have seen this kid in person the last two years, you would have been feeling alot worse about not getting him signed. Very good running ability, vision and could make people miss. He could also catch the ball very well, i think he would have competed easily with the other running backs coming in.

No argument, but it's what he thinks that matters...

I think we are in on some incredible sleepers again, the coaches are doing a great job.

Players that go elsewhere may be making a mistake in our eyes, but it's their's to make...

I wish this kid the absolute best, he has just made the hardest decision he will likely face in life, worse than what you go through when buying a house or even getting married IMO...

The best thing to do in this situation is be patient. Right now this looks like a blow to the program, but lets see who we bring in. We are pretty stocked at RB, so this may be a case of a kid being afraid of riding the bench.

When you are replacing a Tyrell Fenroy... there are two very scary facts to a prospective RB recruit... a) "that" is what I will be compared to... a retired jersey? b) if someone else (highly likely) starts ahead of me... likely a RS freshman... how long do I have to wait? Our RB situation may overwhelm the faint of heart HS RB right now. QBs and RBs always want to go where they can start and stand out, immediately. Other positions may have that great hope, but HS QBs and RBs are used to having everyone slobber on "them" so much, staying dry scares them, especially if the guy standing next to them is moist and gooey all the time.

I'm pleased that he made up his mind fairly quick... for his sake and ours. Since we wanted him to be a Cajun... I really do hope his dreams come true at McNeese. Best of luck to Marcus Wiltz.

Please expound on that comment. What "attitude" changed toward this young man? Hope turned to disappointment? Does that make you feel good? Explain.
