I’m just an ordinary fan looking for a silver lining and looking forward to our opportunity to shake up the Covid Chickens.

While we must realize the competition was light this week, no one can say that use of a pitching rotation by committee for those two games did not reach the ultimate goals:

    a) Two Wins; and

    b) Our entire pitching staff available and on deck to face the Covid Chickens beginning tonight.

And who knows, it may be a great system to not have any Chicken batter face the same pitcher for the second time until Sunday, two days after first seeing that pitcher.

As indicated earlier, under this concept, any pitcher who has been achieving success could go into the third inning and possibly complete that inning.

Mostly because it has failed everytime it’s been tried. More uncertainty for these pitchers is the opposite of what they need, in my opinion. We need defined roles, adequate rest and communication from the staff to the pitchers exactly what the plan is during the weekend.

You can speak to this better than I can, but isn’t it true Cooper found out he was starting Tuesday minutes before the game? Now, maybe he can handle that kind of handling from the staff but I’ve been around pitching for a long time, as many here have, and I can tell you from my own experience, most pitchers can’t.

I respect your optimism. Playing Devil’s advocate though, if half of the committee is ineffective, by Sunday, we will have burned through a large majority of experienced arms and if we’re good enough to hit our way to a rubber match Sunday, what do you do then?

Somebody posted here pretty much the entire rotation used in the 2 midweek games sometime during the Tuesday game, I believe.

So, if Coach Deggs gave the entire pitching staff a couple days notice of the specific rotation he planned on using this week and weekend, are you now on board?

Pitchers are by far the biggest creatures of habit on a baseball team. What Deggs is doing is grasping at straws. While it MIGHT work short term, it is not sustainable. It is a gimmick, much like how our offense is run sometimes.

I’ll say it until the cows come home, ST is not a pitching coach.

Did he let them know or are you posing a hypothetical? We’ve had this problem for 3 years. No one ever knows how they’ll be used from week to week. We had a kid (who left the program) throw a bullpen because he hadn’t seen time on the mound in 2 weeks, had no communication that he would be throwing and it was it regular throw day. Finds out they want to start him in a midweek game a couple hours later. That’s the kind of foolishness that’s gone on here with pitching.

I’m still curious if Cooper found out minutes before the game that he’d be starting. I was told that happened and I’m sure you would know best.

Coastal Notes prior to their WF midweek contest this past Tuesday.

    1. In the first meeting between these two teams, the Chanticleers defeated then-No. 2/5 Wake Forest 13-11 on March 7 in Conway, S.C. It marked the Chants' first win over a top-25 opponent this season.

    2. This season, the Chants have lived by the home run ball. When Coastal's offense hits two or more home runs in a game, the Chanticleers are 20-3 overall. If the Chants hit just one home run, they are 4-5, and if they fail to hit one out of the ballpark, they are just 2-4 on the year.

    3. Entering the midweek contest at nationally-ranked Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina has the third-toughest schedule in all of NCAA Division I baseball (NCAA.org). The Chants' schedule is behind only Kentucky and Georgia out of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

    4. Coastal's pitching staff has four pitchers that have recorded 40 strikeouts or more this season. Reliever Darin Horn leads the team with 63 punch-outs, while weekend starter Jacob Morrison is a close second with 61 strikeouts. Fellow starter Matthew Potok has fanned 44 hitters, while closer Teddy Sharkey has struck out 43 batters on the year.

    5. The Chants, which rank fifth in the nation in runs scored with 385 on the year, have five players that have crossed the plate 40 times or more in Payton Eeles (47), Graham Brown (47), Derek Bender (41), Chad Born (41), and Nick Lucky (40).

    6. Six was the magic number for the Chants in 2022, as Coastal was 33-4-1 overall when scoring six runs or more in a game. Th is season, the Chants are 23-3 when scoring six runs or more for the game and just 3-9 when scoring less than six runs.

    7. The Chanticleers will be looking for their seventh win over a top-25 nationally-ranked
opponent this season on Tuesday night at Wake Forest. Coastal is 6-3 versus top-25 teams this season, including a 13-11 win over then-No. 2/5 Wake Forest on March 7 in Conway, S.C.

    8. Entering this season, the Chanticleers have posted the eighth-most wins in all of NCAA Division 1 baseball since 2001 with 885 wins. The Chants trail just Florida State (974), LSU (935), North Carolina (931), Texas (909), South Carolina (908), Florida (893), and Vanderbilt (889).

    9. The Coastal offense has been on fire all season long and ranks in the top 15 of seven NCAA offensive statistical categories, including scoring (second - 10.1), hit-by-pitch (fourth - 89), runs (fifth - 385), slugging percentage (fifth - .562), on-base percentage (seventh - .431), doubles (ninth - 98), batting average (11th - .321), hits (12th - 434), and home runs (15th - 73).

    10. The Chanticleers have won 12 straight Sun Belt Conference series dating back to last season. Since being swept by the Georgia State Panthers at home last year on April 8-10, 2022, CCU has won each of its last 12 Sun Belt series, going 29-7 overall in those contests.

Tonight is a major game for Cajun Baseball. Show up early. Get lathered up and GET F'n LOUD.

Let's take their work and flush it. Destroy their concentration. Timely schit talking.

    LFG.

It’s easy to play devil’s advocate with half the facts.

    I have given my take.

Even with that take, we have to play the games and by far, the committee concept has the best opportunity to have a substantial amount of our pitching rotation available on Sunday.

It ain’t Seth, brother. Trust me on this.

But you’re leaving out an important part: Who is our “rotation?”
