All I could figure when he got closer after he raised his hands saw the ball was actually in play.

If you looked at the field, not one umpire was looking at the outfield. If he would have left the ball, the batter would have scored. Poor positioning on the part of the umpiring crew

Agreed, and that same ump rang us up twice on similar check swings.
That was a fun baseball game, and I love the grit of this team.
