I'm not either. Just my opinion. I think we are better off with 2 strong football schools for conference scheduling, for a regional rival and for a stronger conference. Also, a school like Rice gives us a presence in one of the top recruiting areas in the country and gives us a presence where we have our largest alumni base outside of Lafayette and adds a prestigious academic school to the conference. USM football will be back and is another natural rivalry for us. We get none of that in Little Rock and Arlington.

Good points. But seeing as UTA was added just a few years ago to specifically balance Little Rock don’t think it will happen.

That's why both go. It would seem the easiest way to remove both schools is for the conference to decide to go all sports.

My guess is the conference made a commitment to UTA to get it to leave the Southland Conference that that would not happen.

Just for the fun of playing around with this, would need another school to go to 12, UAB, Liberty or Marshall. Go to 14 to add all 3, which would make for 2 strong regional divisions, a strong national conference, gives everyone travel partners, and decimates C-USA. Would normally welcome LA Tech instead of UAB, especially as a travel partner for Ark State, but they are such a-holes and would always fight us on our name, so the hell with them. Besides, it would be them or UAB. One of them would be the odd man out.

West - UL, Rice, Texas State, USM, USA, Ark State, UAB
East - Troy, GA State, GA Southern, Coastal, App State, Liberty, Marshall

If you want to stay at 12, add USM, Rice and UAB. Liberty and Marshall would be the outliers.

West - UL, Rice, Texas State, USM, USA, Ark State
East - Troy, UAB, GA State, GA Southern, Coastal, App State

Adding Rice and USM to the West would make for one hell of a baseball division

He could advance his retirement income by a lot. That’s always important for those making hard decisions.

May be an option if he wants to retire soon and make the ULM job his last one.

Think it’s the top three years not necessarily the last three. So he should be able to parlay it even if he accepted another state coaching job for less after ULM failure.

I always wished UL had given Faulkinberry and Shipley a decent paying consulting job for a few years.

Then someone ask me, how do you know they didn't?.
