    Footballscoop:

Sources: Kansas State zeroing in on Chris Klieman

Sources have told FootballScoop that K-State has conducted a wide-ranging search for Bill Snyder’s replacement, with as many as seven candidates on the list to be interviewed.

But North Texas head coach Seth Littrell, mentioned by many in Manhattan throughout the fall as the top candidate, has withdrawn from the search, indicating K-State is nearing a hire — and sources told FootballScoop Taylor is zeroing in on a familiar name in North Dakota State head coach Chris Klieman.

Taylor promoted Klieman to NDSU’s head coach after Craig Bohl left for Wyoming.

In his fifth season leading the premier FCS program, Klieman is 66-6 with three national championships and perhaps one more in the offing. The Bison are the top seed in the FCS playoffs and are set to host No. 8 Colgate in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.

FCS straight to P5? That doesn't happen very often I'd imagine.

Update on App State’s coaching search

At this time, sources tell FootballScoop, NC State offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford is a legit candidate for the job. Western Carolina head coach Mark Speir has interviewed, as has interim head coach Mark Ivey. Each of these three have significant coaching experience at App and Ivey played in Boone as well.

In addition to these three, sources tell FootballScoop a number of coordinators, predominantly on the offensive side of the ball and from or familiar with the region, have sought interviews. Additionally, a number of experienced head coaches have called in as well. Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton, who previously coached at App State, has been mentioned as a candidate by many.

Gillin has a number of excellent options to carry the program forward. We’ll keep you updated as more becomes clear.

Ledford appears to be going to Louisville with Satterfield.

Yup. This from Footballscoop.com from last night.

"This evening sources told FootballScoop App State target Dwayne Ledford has pulled out of the process and is expected to join Scott Satterfield’s staff at Louisville.

With the news that Ledford is out of the process, FootballScoop is told the search now includes some new names. There are whispers in the profession that App State director of athletics Doug Gillen is now considering former East Carolina head coach Ruffin McNeill, Alabama co-OC Josh Gattis and a few others (potentially including Nate Woody).

McNeill, who currently serves as Lincoln Riley’s associate head coach & interim defensive coordinator at Oklahoma, served as head coach at East Carolina from 2010-15. He served as App State’s defensive coordinator from 1993-96. Gattis has been offered the offensive coordinator position at Maryland (per our sources) and could also be a candidate for Temple’s head coaching position.

    Looking official now, Footballscoop.com:

Late last week, we shared that the Kansas State search was zeroing in on NDSU coach Chris Klieman. Tonight, Bruce Feldman reports that K-State is expected to offer the job to Klieman tonight, and “all indications point to him accepting the job.” He’s expected to coach NDSU through their playoff run, Feldman adds.

Pete Thamel and Dan Wolken have since added that Klieman is finalizing a deal.

I think this time next year we will be sweating Napier being mentioned in the coaching rumor mill. I’m glad it’s not starting this year
