Ok, bad example. Meant to put sam Houston. Theee year RPI average at 160, with the previous two seasons at 192 and 193. The game was most likely scheduled a year or two ago when their RPI was 192/193.

That's fine... I happen to like the fact that we stand alone from the other state schools in not bowing to the flugship.. I like the fact that they don't understand why we don't fall in line with the others.... I like the fact that others smile and accept that cr@p while we don't... You bring up some interesting scenarios and peaked my curiosity. I looked up various conferences for current openings and here is what I found.

AAC

There are currently 12 football members with Navy being football only. Wichita State replaces Navy in other sports keeping the AAC at 12 members. However, the AAC does not field 12 teams in Baseball and Softball. 9 teams in Baseball without SMU, Tulsa and Temple who don't field teams. Softball has only 8 members without Tulane, SMU, Temple and Cincy who don't field teams.

Big 12

The Big 12 has only 10 members, which to me is the ideal conference size. Play all 9 members and crown a true champion. No need for a Championship game. However, the Big 12 has only 9 Baseball members, Iowa State not fielding a team. Nor does Iowa State field a men's Tennis team. The Big 12 has only 7 teams in Softball, with K State, West VA and TCU not fielding teams. The Big 12 has only 6 Men's Tennis teams, with K State, KU, WV & Iowa State not fielding teams. The AAC has only 11 Tennis members for both Men's and Women's Tennis with Wichita State not fielding a team. The Big 12 has 9 Volleyball members with OK State not fielding a team.

MWC

Has only 11 members. Baseball has only 7 members, with Boise State, Colorado State, UNLV and Wyoming not have teams. Only 11 teams in Basketball. Only 9 teams in Softball with Wyoming and Air Force not having teams. Football added Hawaii to get to 12 teams. Tennis has only 9 teams with Wyoming and Colorado State not having teams. Women's tennis has 11 teams.

MVC

The MVC (Missouri Valley Conference) currently has 10 members - Bradley, Evansville, Ill State, Indiana State, Missouri State, N. Iowa, S. Illinois, Valpo, Drake and Loyola (Chicago). There are no openings for basketball unless it expands.

It appears the only conference openings presently are:

Football - Independent until a conference expands
Basketball - The only conference with uneven teams is the MWC with 11 teams
Baseball - Big 12, AAC or MWC
Softball - Big 12, AAC or MWC
Men's Tennis - Big 12, AAC or MWC
Women's Tennis - AAC or MWC
Volleyball - Big 12 or MWC
Soccer - MWC with 11 teams
T&F - MWC with 11 members
