a win over FIU is by no means a certainty.
Most disappointing Marlin coached Cajun basketball game I have watched. Hopefully it is an anomaly.
The Cajuns continue to turn the ball over too much. They are not good enough to afford 15 turnovers a game. They must learn to value each possession more.
I was disappointed in their ineptness in handling the press. I thought they would have handled it better. This is not the first time they have had trouble defeating a full court press. I would not be surprised if FIU employs one Saturday night. Until the Cajuns show their opponents they can handle the press, I won't be surprised to see opponents employ it. When you have a freshman guard in the game...well, you can expect freshman mistakes. Until he (the freshman) can prove in practice he can handle the press I would prefer to see Mbamalu and/or Andrews in the game.
We are still having problems inbounding the ball. When he is in the game our freshman guard is usually the one inbounding the ball. I know it is not all his fault...the four guys on the court need to work to get open. Maybe having a more seasoned player to inbound the ball would help. It's disappointing we are still having these problems at this point in the season. I know Marlin thinks highly of Elfrid and thinks he will be a very good basketball player when he is a senior. Sometimes witnessing the growing is painful.
Geaux Cajuns! Beat FIU!
Tyrus Wade was not a good 3 point shooter but was one of the best mid range shooter we have had in a long time. I felt if he would of come back his Sr. year with the return of Southall and Mitchell's progression, UL would of have had one yeck of a team.
David Dees was another not so good 3 point shooter but good mid range shooter. Bridges maybe the next best. We have not had many mid range shooters.
Daigle and Bureau from last year's team were better shooters than the guys we have now. Now both had
other shortcomings on the court but were decent shots. Free throw shooting has improved this year
which is due to the Kadeem Coleby getting better. We are turnover prone but I think that has something to do with not having a 2 guard who can create a little bit. Someone said we may have more firepower next year. No way to know that but we are
bringing in four guards. Three signed in the early November period and one transferred from Tulane. No way to know how they will do in college but you would hope the odds indicate at least one will help.
