...especially when some can't make any.
I have not been as disappointed in quite awhile as I was last night in leaving the Dome. We did OK on offense in the first 10 minutes, fine on defense in the 2nd 10 minutes, poor on both offense and defense for the final 20 minutes. Too many turnovers again, gave USA too many 2nd shots when we did force a miss, and shot without confidence. Plenty of open looks were missed and that caused guys to press on later shots. In fact we had trouble finishing near the basket the entire game. I wonder if the team is doubting themselves now and a win over FIU is by no means a certainty. Coach Marlin knows the staff and team just needs to work through this and find some answers. By now, we know that the two JC guards we brought in probably won't be big contributors at any point although Jackson played OK on defense last night. New guys that are freshman are expected to be inconsistent and of course they have been. Big missing key is a qualtiy player at the 2 guard spot. Bryant Mbhamalu is a starter now there and Coach Marlin told Rebounders last year that he was brought in as a complimentary player. The fact he is starting shows how much of a crapshoot recruiting is. Hopefully we will do better with the high school guards which signed in the early signing date. End of mild rant.
Do we have anybody that can shoot the ball from the outside????? The answer is NO NO HELL NO!!! The only guy that is close is AMT if he is on---BUT Perez, Payton, Andrews, Mbamalu, or Brown Can't!!!!
---YOU ARE RIGHT---hit those 2 in a row and I told my wife that if he hits those and they have to come out on him he will kill people driving to the goal!!! Perez hit a 3 and the next time the defender comes flying out---he fakes and drives pulls up wide open jumper and misses ---And did he have the airball 3 pt attempt????
Shot selection is probably the most common and most critical issue for college teams... with that said, shot selection always looks better when you aren't shooting 44% from the field... I guess the question is are they taking bad shots or just not making the ones they should?
When is the last time UL had pure shooters on the team? All I can remember anyone referring to us as is a team with athletic players. We could run up and down the court and dunk the ball with the best of them. But couln't hit a simple jump shot and always seemed to be turnover prone, and were poor free throw shooters. It is like the basic skills were always missing, but we sure could jump.
I thought UL did a good job of breaking the press but after crossing mid court they played like they were still under duress.
I know it is called "full court press" but once you cross mid court you should have time to set up an offense. I saw some wild passes after UL crossed (or was crossing) mid court.
The press seemed to take the Cajuns out of sync. Also So Al was playing pretty good half court defense as well.
Thought the Cajuns should have gone inside more down the stretch-especially JJ
