Thread: Offense

    UL Football Offense

Now that the college football season is over and done with I thought we should take some time to reflect on UL's offensive performance. What do you guys think about UL's offensive performance this season? (Overall and Position by position) What do you think we can improve on to make our offense better for next season? How does our offense fare against other in-state school offenses? Also, where do you rank this years offense historically by school standards?

I give the offense an A- for the season!

WRs should be strength, RBs & QBs should be good, will be difficult to replace production @ TE and need to improve @ OT (pass blocking).

I agree with Hardcore, but I would add that I give an A+ in the passing game and a C+ in the running game. All skill positions will be very solid to excellent next year; but the OL needs to step up in run blocking and show improvement in pass blocking as well. As our OL was overall very young this year, I believe that will happen.

Agree that our offense was very good. And while our o-line generally performed good that is an area where you always want to improve so that you can dominate. While its not a flashy position and it sounds like an old cliche you really do win and lose games at the line of scrimmage. I think we saw an example of that last Monday night.

It's a truism, but it became a truism by being.... well..... true. On the offensive side of the ball, I'd rather have great linemen and average skill players than the other way around.

B......running game too inconsistent. this resulted in our 3rd down coversions percent to be average at best.

Improve here, the passing game can get even better......next year will be very productive.

Nail on the head Policarp... Consistency in the running game is all-important for the offense. We need the RBs to make better contributions to take pressure off of Gautier. Gautier had 1/4 of the rushing yards for UL. He is important enough as a passer that he needs to run less to take less hits.

The lack of running game out of the RBs was more an issue with an inexperienced OL. Alonzo made most of his runs off of bouncing it outside. Our inexperienced OL getting another year under their belt is going to be extremely important. Of any position on the field, experience at OL is the single most important. I feel very confident in next year's offensive production potential.

I don't see Blaine running less. I think he's just too much of a gamer. He isn't a pocket passer. He makes plays where there is little room left to make a play. He doesn't care whether he takes a hit. I think he loves crashing up the middle. He's built for it. I don't see him doing anything much different this coming year. I see the OL providing better protection and run blocking better... and all that means is that we are going to have better overall offensive production.

The problem in the running game is not the running backs.

I would say, overall, the offense turned out much better than expected. I liked our passing game, once Blaine got in the groove, and our WR's were playing as good as i've seen in 10 years or more. The running game had it's moments, but needs improvement. I think Harris is a good RB and needs better blocking up front in order to be a threat on offense. I would also like to see a RB that gives us that break away speed and provide a change up for the defense to have to deal with. We are in great position at QB going into next year with Blaine having experience and producing nicely this year and then the new guys we have in the program. The OL played hard and proved they could play well after being singled out as the area needing the most improvement when Hud came on board. He said so himself. If the Cajuns can get a little stronger and tougher up front and provide a better pocket for the QB, along with making some holes for whoever the RB is, then the UL offense would not be able to be stopped. I think we are in good shape going into next year on offense and can't wait to see them play.

Hopefully he can fill that role, but he hasn't played a down yet. Like to see it with my own eyes. It would be great though, you're right.
