Thread: Joe DeForest to be WVU's new defensive coordinator

  1. Default Joe DeForest to be WVU's new defensive coordinator

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen doesn't appear to be wasting any time picking up what will likely be a new defensive coordinator with the expected departure of Jeff Casteel to Arizona finally coming to fruition today. In what official ...

Its a good move for his career if he eventually wants to be a head coach. I don't think being special teams coordinator was going to get him a HC job, at least not at the D1A level, even with the "Associate Head Coach" title which most people consider nothing more than window dressing. Good luck to him.

Baldwin was DiNardo's A-HC when first hired at LSU.

This guy sounds like a very good high character guy. It will be interesting to see how he does with the WVU defense in the future.

DeForest is a UL alum and former player who also applied for the UL Head Coaching job. I believe he was a finalist with Hudspeth, of course, being selected. He has been at OSU for many years. A promotion to DC will be a good career move for him.

All the more reason to say it is a meaningless title. And just more proof that our previous admin was inept if they were impressed by that and made a hiring decision based in whole or in part on that.

And just to be clear the job title creates no comparison between Joe and Jerry.

In fact Jerry was soon demoted to Defensive coordinator, then line coach, then position coach.

Right before he was going to be let go from LSU (head scratcher) JB was hired at UL to be HC.

Good move for him. Who knows, if HUD leaves us in a year or so, this guy could be our next head coach if he's successful at WVU. But I'm getting WAY too far ahead of myself.

Joe is a fantastic recruiter and was a big part of Oklahoma States success. As a player here at U.L., he was a fine player and a good leader on and off of the field. He eventually will get his opportunity as a head coach.
