Thread: Thanks ESPN1420 ( KPEL )

  1. Ragin' Cajuns Thanks ESPN1420 ( KPEL )

This week my wife and I are housing some volunteers from Austin and San Antonio who have come down to Abbeville to help restore some of the flood damaged homes in our area. The interiors of 7 houses on my block alone were flooded due to Rita's storm surge. Fortunately mine was not one of them.

Last night it hit me that even thought I couldn't attend the Lady Cajuns Basketball game, how nice it was to have KPEL broadcasting the game so fans can hear it. Ragin' Cajuns and Lady Cajuns at the SAME time, how cool is that?

It also hit me that this isn't a fly by night commitment that KPEL has given to ULAthletics. They have been at it for at least portions of 6 decades.

Thanks KPEL for all the years of broadcasting UL games. Thanks Ron, Don, Jay, Ray, Steve, Bo, Bil and all the announcers/color guys (that I hope posters can round out) for bringing games to the fans.

This picture below was taken during a Dec 17th 1959 basketball game vs. McNeese in which UL won 60-59 and was broadcast on KPEL radio.

    Ragin' Cajuns Re: Thanks KPEL

Over the years, there has always been Ragin Cajun sports on the radio and even on local television. Knowing full well the size of the market for broadcasting games, we, as fan of the UL are very, VERY fortunate to have a business community to support the airing of athletic events. Traditionally, football and men's basketball have the pillars of the sporting events. Now, Ragin Cajun baseball, softball and even women's basketball can be heard over the airwaves.

Think about, a relatively small university with over 150 games on the radio and television. This is a tribute to the financial support of the business community, through the fans, alumni and athletic staff.

    Thanks,

    P. S. If we can just get Sportsnote to stream the Ragin Cajun Golf Classic.

Actually, those were very bright, well coached athletes who during that era were always among the top rated NAIA schools. That particular group of starters earned something like 15 degrees in their lifetime. My senior-aged brain remembers them well.

If they jump any higher, they might leave the ground....
