LOUISIANA La. – Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns softball team moved up a few spots in the Top 25 polls released this week.
The Lady Cajuns (5-0), coming off of a sweep of action in the 20th Annual Louisiana Classics, jumped two spots in both the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll.
UL is now ranked No. 16 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll, up two spots from its debut slot at No. 18.
In the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll the Ragin’ Cajuns joined the Top 20, moving up to the No. 19 spot in this week’s poll. UL opened the season at No. 21.
The Cajuns garnered 249 points in the NFCA poll and were only 12 points behind No. 15 Baylor (2-2).
Louisiana, the Sun Belt Conference’s representative in the Top 25 polls, also remained the highest ranked team in the state of Louisiana. LSU joined the NFCA Top 25 poll in a tie for No. 25 with Fresno State.
The Lady Cajuns picked up 135 points in the ESPN.com poll. UL had a 27-point lead over No. 20 Auburn and were only 20 points behind No. 18 Missouri.
No. 16 Louisiana is back in action this weekend at Alfred and Helen Lamson Lady Cajuns Softball Park hosting the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational.
The tournament, which includes Chattanooga, McNeese State and Southern Mississippi, runs Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19.
